Ive got the dash out and want to replace the dash harness etc.  Any tips on how to disconnect all of the mess on the inside from the bulkhead?

Thanks

the bulkhead is part of the harness.

If you want to mean how to remove the bulkhead from the harness itself you need to press down the terminals tabs on every terminal from the front side.

Be sure to intall the new harness wires on same cavities

If you want to mean how to remove the bulkhead from firewall to get out all the assembly WITH HARNESS... just two phillips long bolts gets attached to firewall with two 7/16" nuts on the engine bay side ( well that's the way how is attached on 3rd gens... I think rest are similar )... you really need to remove the nuts... Bolts will keep on bulkhead

70 & earlier use spring clips to retain the bulkhead connector , 71 up use the screws as Natcho said

Right, I did notice that.  does the connector pass forward into the engine compartment or backwards towards the dash?  Kinda hard to see right now.  I still have a few items to remove under the cowl

all engine bay harnesses keeps on engine bay, and bulkhead with harness is removed from inside the cab, so towards the dash

When installing, you push the bulkhead from inside the dash until it snaps into place on the firewall.  I had a hard time getting leverage to push it through, with all the stuff in the way, but I got it eventually.  I even pulled a bit from the engine bay.
