What are your comments on clone cars? Opinion on worth of this Roadrunner clone

Hi, what are you comments on clones?  I know some have R/T's or Daytonas and such.   This Roadrunner might be for sale, it is a clone/replica.  I was looking for help on what the car might be worth.    It is a 383 with a rebuilt 727, column shift, black interior, (edit: sure grip rear end).  Small dent above both back fenders, the dents look about the same on both sides.  Has headers that need new gaskets, alarm system with anti start.    What would be a good price?  I know if it was real it would be very costly, but I don't know about a replica value.   Wonder if the car will appreciate much, good investment?    Any comments appreciated. Thank you, Nate

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

I would say $8k to $10k for it roughly guessing? We need more pics of the trunk, engine compartment, and interior to make a better guess.

posi rear end.

I can't answer until this is corrected.  >:(

But seriously, what was it originally? Me, I wouldn't pay more than 3-5K for that thing.  :Twocents:

Ok, it was originally a Plymouth Belvedere.    The "posi" as the guy said, was added later.  Don't know if he meant limited slip or what, or what the rear end is from.
The interior is overall very decent, except for two tears on part of front seat you sit on, bench seat.  All black interior, carpet, sides, arm rests, dash etc. in good shape.   Didn't get a chance to look at engine or trunk compartment yet.  Thank you.

here is a pic of a belvedere:

I was going to say $7k but the bottom is so black I can't see the rot. Maybe $5-6k

I love clones, I have a '73 Roadrunner clone that I can't give away, and a real nice '70 Challenger R/T 440 clone. I've turned down $25k offers on the Challenger and it has a salvage title, never wrecked and was drivable from a mopar only salvage yard.

Oh yea, k,  didn't realize the black stripe along lower side wasn't correct.  Here is a pic from the internet of I figure a real Roadrunner.

$5000 tops, but would want more pics to go that high. If it's a solid, nice frame, floors, trunk complete car, it'd be worth it.

Clones, replicas, modified, or whatever people call them, are perfectly fine with me. The only time I would say it's a problem is when the seller is asking as much for a duplicate as the real thing. As for the green one in your pic, I see the rust in the driver's quarter & know the car will need a lot more than just that one spot repaired. You will really have to crawl under, around & inside that car to make sure it's not a rot box or something that was done as a quickie to sell it.

The value is a tough call these days since prices seem to escalate daily & record setting prices change fast. Just last summer I bought my 1970 Road Runner after looking at many cars that all varied in price. If you saw my Road Runner when I posted it, you can get an idea of the condition it's in & that it wasn't quite finished. It wasn't dirt cheap, but I sure didn't pay what a finished one would cost. I've looked at a lot of 1970 Plymouths lately, including the ones I almost considered purchasing, & know you definitely have to shop around.

I saw a nice 318 Sport Satellite sell for $8500 with no rust & needed very little. I saw a 383 Sport Satellite with a nice paint job, but the engine was tired as well as the interior. This one had an asking price of $13,500 but I don't know if it sold. I saw a 1970 GTX that was nice, but not original. It was a clean driver with an asking price of $24,000 & may have sold for almost that amount. There was another 1970 Road Runner with an asking price of $15,000, but it was a former drag car with a roll bar & a lot of it was modified. It had a high bid on ebay of $14,000 & probably sold.

Mine has a fresh 440 although it's originally a 383 car with a 4 speed. It has new quarters, wheel houses, paint, inteior, and more. I paid $16,000 for it & figure with about $1500 more it'll be done & ready to cruise in. On a scale of 1 to 6 with 6 being the best like a 100 point show car, I'd say it's a 4 to 4.5 depending on how one sees it. It's not perfect, but it's rust free & not missing much. Here's the link to when I first posted about it:

DAmmit , I knew it, I knew it, he was asking 4500 when I saw it, I could have made an easy two grand,   :flame:

The ebay seller bought it for 4500, or less, and is just flipping it, I should have done that.   :rotz:

Wow, you guys, that car sold on ebay for $6350.  I saw it on the side of the road with a 4-sale sign 4500 or best offer when I first saw the car.   When you see an old Mopar car like that on the side of the road with a for sale sign, you know you could buy it and sell it for more on ebay, a lot of people just aren't into the computer thing, this person made almost 2000 gross for buying it and flipping it, on a 4500 dollar investment, in a couple weeks, no labor, but a car wash maybe, buff out the paint, oh well, I just didn't have enough to buy it, but I would have in a second, drove it for a while this summer, then sell it.

the guy i bought the runner from wasn't really in it for the money,.. after all he didnt bother to look it up inna book, didn't wait for the other sellers to show up, didn't list it on e-prey, and i figgure probably could have sold it easily for many thousands more,.. he said he made money on it though,..
i paid 14K and the NADA price guide says 22.3 & according to some, that's a low figgure...
I'm thinking i'll spend a year or two cleaning & fixin her up,.. but she dont really need much, i think she's more interesting as a survivor then a perfect resto project... Folks all seem really to appreciative that the car's all original since they all have commented on that,.. Im wondering if i should even replace some of the dogged out stuff like the trunk mat since a fresh new one would look so outta place... i thought the glass was in poor condition and tinted, till i washed the inside and realized it prolly hadn't been cleaned in a decade,.. it's clear and perfect..
anyone know what a perfect original polyglas f-70 14 is worth?.. seems i remember a few years back, all the resto maniacs were lookin for them for display purposes...
sorry for the ramble, yeah, it's nice to be able to swing a deal when ya' have the cash to respond quickly.

Lowprofile

The only problem with clones is when people try to pass them as originals.  :rotz:
For the past 5 years or so, I've been looking around for a 69' Sport Satellite. Because of the $$$$$ craze over Mopars of late, its like looking for the proverbial "needle in a haystack".  Even the "half crushed, rot box skeletons" you find [if your lucky] are going for big bucks. Like most of you guys & girls, I work within my budget to try and enjoy my hobby, but I gotta tell ya, I've kinda given up on the Satellite.........the prices are for the most part outrageous. [IMHO] And don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem w/ people making a profit. But things are so out of reach for most of us.

BTW.....I'm glad I got my R/T 12 Years ago. I would have to sell a kidney or re-mortgage my house to get one today.  :icon_smile_sad:

Heck, if I could, I wouldn't even have sold the car, I love the Roadrunner in that color with those wheels, its a clone, but so what, 4500 bucks and a running 383, new trans and sure grip, cool looking car.  I like it,  :'(

My REAL problem with clones is if they are built based on a 1 year only design(ie 71 R/T)it makes it harder for people who owns a real example to find parts...... :yesnod:
