Were all 70 Charger front fenders pre-drilled for the wheel opening moldings screws? Or, was the only for cars that had the moldings?

ALL 68 & 69 had the moldings,& the holes were more like punched through, so was it an option on the 70 ?

For 1970 year Charger, Code M26 Molding Wheel Lip $14.05. Not Available on XH, Standard on 500 XP, Option on R/T. On line 9 of the Broadcast Sheet in the ''M'' section you will have a ''6'' in the ''M26'' box if the car came with them. If the box is blank, no Wheel Moldings or screw holes.

So from the above.....A 70 R/T would only have the holes in front fenders if ordered with optional WOM. Reason I asked is because my car had no holes in the rear quarter panels for moldings. However, when I purchased it did not come with the original front fenders. Thanks for the clarification.

Another reason why 70s are on the bottom of my list of 2nd gens (68s being the best). These cars look like crap w/o wheel well moldings.

You say so. All they do is hold water, dirt and salt and create rust.

It's called preventative maintenance which goes way beyond doing an oil change and lube job.

Remove the wheel well trim say once a year, clean trim's underside, clean wheel well arch and then re-install. Put grease on the tiny screws so that next time they come out a lot easier. But for some that might be too troublesome so they leave the trim off and fill the screw holes.

That's what opinions are worth about 2 cents. When I am riding with six barrels open and shifting my pistol grip, your opinion won't mean shit to me!

Dumbest reason I ever heard to not like a car, so with that mentality you could dislike ANY mopar without wheel lip mouldings, not to mention they could be added to any car at any time. :shruggy:

My car did not have them originally.....and quite frankly I think in this color combo they would look out of place. I do like the WOM on many colors of these cars. Especially with the vinyl top & chrome Magnum 500 wheels. However, on some cars the look without them is awesome.

Your car is really coming together nicely.  All of the 70 Charger fenders I have had over the years, have had the holes for the wheel well moldings.  I have owned about 25 70 Chargers over the years,I currently have 5 of them, plus a half dozen extra fenders.

Hi J. Car looks AWESOME!,  I Love the V21 and the Painted racing mirrors, Is it coded that way or did you add it?  :2thumbs:

Maybe the fenders that you have were NOS parts at one point. I have a few 70 Charger NOS rear quarters, and they are not drilled for the wheel well moldings.

Hmmmm......This is strong evidence that all front fenders had the holes. If so, then mine is representative.

I added the V21 and racing mirrors. Other exterior features are correct. Not a numbers car so I thought I would add a few features to my liking.

Just for thought...if the holes were drilled as needed...46,315 total 1970 Chargers made, of that number, 9,345 were XH (no wheel well trim), 27,461 XP (wheel well trim, standard), of the 9,509 XS (wheel well trim, option) 1,752 were built with the M26 option. 29,213 out of 46,315 with the M26 option, Over 50% of assembly line built 1970 Chargers should have screw holes in the wheel lips.

To me, it looks like the holes for the wheel moldings were not pre drilled at all, but instead it looks to my uneducated eyes that they may have just sent a self tapper through the sheet metal with the molding in place. At least that's how the holes look to me, with distorted metal around them.

My factory 500 fenders had the moldings, and the used Arizona fenders I picked up also had the moldings, which I dislike, and removed. I'm one of the few that doesn't prefer them as well.

Anybody that works with sheet metal and run screws in to it, would not want a predrilled hole in the back piece. Well maybe a tiny hole just for the point of the screw to start in with less effort.
It would seem kind of strange to pre drill/punch holes in the front fenders and not in the rear fender for something that may not be used and what's to say the holes (how many I forget) in the trim will match up with those pre drilled/punched holes.

I guess I will remove my wheel well trim and look at the screw holes, and while I'm at it, I think I'll clean out the 50 years of road grime.  :eek2:

I have two 70' Chargers and two spare fenders, so six fenders total. Both cars have mouldings, the two spare fenders have no holes and they are both are off two other different cars.
