So, after searching the area and calling multiple shops to do the new top on Deb's 66 Valiant convertible, we settle on these guys a couple towns over.

They're a pretty big outfit and have lots of high-end stuff in the shop.

It should've been a red flag to me when they call after the first week and say they can't locate weatherstripping. EVERYONE freaking carries it. I ended up ordering it for them. Fine, it'll save me a couple bucks.

They have the car for a month. No problem. The weather has sucked so it's not exactly ragtop weather anyway.

They finally call and say the car is ready.

I have Deb go look it over, test it and pay for it.

I get home last night. They installed a new well liner and there are no drains. Now, what was left of the old liner was still in there and the drains were in it and they were in perfect condition. On top of that, the rear chrome trim isn't right and I can friggin see part of the well liner peaking out from underneath. On top of all that, they came in much higher than the estimate.

I call them this AM, first thing and ask where the well liner drains are.

"We'll call you back".

The effing thing is going back as soon as I can get it there. Yeah, I could fix the trim myself but for what they got for the job, to let it leave the shop that way is unacceptible.

They had better find those f*cking drains because they are not available aftermarket as far as I know.

i suppose Deb didnt know to look for that suff.  better pick it up yourself next time.  :-\

Yeah, it was my fault but there was no way I could get there this week to pick it up.

I told her to check it over and test it. Should've known better.

BUT, there is no excuse for the lousy workmanship.

That sucks, but these days it's pretty common to get something back & have it look like crap. Not just cars, but everything. I've been putting off some major repairs on the outside of my house & will do it this summer myself. I sure as s**t don't need some contractor with a couple of moronic crackheads "repairing" my house & have him tell me "I don't see anything wrong, it's the industry standard to do it like this."

Hope you get the drains back, but I can't figure out what parts you're referring to. My B-Body ragtops didn't have anything in the well liner.

Go cheer yourself up & look at your baseball standings, but just remember it's only temporary.  :D

The Sox play Columbus again tonight.

;D

In the bottom of the well liner on the Valiant there are two chrome drains. On the underside, they have tubes that run to 2 holes below which allows water to drain out.

I just have hardtop cars, then i dont have to worry about my top leaking... :icon_smile_big:  does that help  ;D

:smilielol:  So when the Sox lose it'll be even funnier.

I had a '68 Barracuda convertible that had the same style well as the B-Body ones I have now. Must be the older A-Body that had a different drain set up. You can try Hydro-E-Lectric & ask them, they might have a lead on something like that. I got 2 top cylinders from them 20 years ago & they're still fine. They also have other parts, but I never inquired.

If they just hit it right at E-Rod, they'll be fine.

Once I start looking, that was one of my places to call.

SirNik73

if they are yanking you around, i'd go back in tehre guns blazing. i'd get the phone number of the BAR, Bureau of Automotive Repair (if your state has this) and i'd have it in my cell phone. and if they didn't fix it as it should have been fixed. i'd call the BAR. here in califonia the BAR has the power to close down a shop... shop owners fear the BAR.
If i were the shop owner and that happend i'd be kissing you butt making sure you didn't call the BAR, that car would be fixed in a day.

We spoke on the phone. They do have the drains and they will fix the trim issue. I need to get it back to them. That'll have to wait since I have the entire front end apart for a rebuild right now.
