Hi all! I found a castingnumber on my transbox today.

Does anyone know how i can find out witch trans it is with help of this number?
Like a decoder or something?

The number is: 4A170354

The number on the rearaxel was 2881489 witch, as far as i can figure out, is a 8-3/4 axel. But some pages online states that theese were made betwen 1969 and 1974.
I find that a little strange because my car is a 1975 mod. Offcourse it can have been changed once apon the time, who knows..

Did you find this number stamped in a raised pad on the passenger side? If so, it is the partial VIN of a '74 car built at the Lynch Road plant. Automatic or manual trans?

If the 489 rear end is in a '75 car it was retrofitted or the car is misidentified as a '75.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Hi John!

Yes i found the number on a raised pad on the passenger side! Its a automatic trans.

What does retrofitted mean?

Its a charger so im sure its a -75.

Thanks for your help! :)
