PETTY TO TOYOTA IN NASCAR

I found this information on the Jayski Nascar website. Would the King really go to Toyota? But, I would have never thought Dale Jarrett would go either. And DJ owns a Ford dealer.

Petty's and Toyota? Kyle Petty told Benny Parsons on his nationally syndicated "Fast Talk" radio program [PRN] Monday night that Petty Enterprises would certainly consider switching to Toyota if it made the team more competitive. While Petty said nothing is currently on the horizon with the Japanese manufacturer, PE would be open to doing anything to help the team win.(RacingOne)(5-16-2006)

Well Petty Enterprises hasn't done much but rest on Richard Petty's former success.... as in WINNING races. Most times they have a mechanical failure or get involved in a wreck, now here lately they have done better but its to little to late in my opinion.
I bet I get flamed for dissing Petty, but I am more slamming Kyle and the racing team not Richard. Does any one know when one of the Petty cars won a race, not 4th place but won?

Yep

245 -- Races since a Petty Enterprises car went to Victory Lane. John Andretti won the Goody's Body Pain 500 at Martinsville on April 18, 1999, driving the No. 43 Pontiac.

That would do it for me. I would be all done with Nascar. Atleast when Petty switched to Ford in 69,he had a good reason,he wanted to race a Daytona, and Plymouth would not let him.

TruckDriver

Maybe this came up because Dodge IS pulling back out a Nascar.

That, and he wanted the exclusive distributorship for racing parts that Ray Nichels (Nichels Engineering) had.  The distributorship deal was part of the package that RP got when he came back to the Chrysler camp.

I really respect the Petty organization, but you'd think they would be a little more loyal.  Dodge has paid them Megabucks to be an also-ran since the marque came back to NA$CAR.  Sounds like Kyle is dissing Dodge there a bit, as if to say that Toyota might be more competitive than his current manufacturer.  I'm not trying to say that the Mopars are the most competitive cars out there, but they hold their own for the most part.  Hearing that comment from Kyle makes it sound like they want someone else's work and investment in development to MAKE them competitive, rather than trying to get things figured out for themselves a la Penske & Evernham.

Even with the best equipment you still need great personal to back it up. The addition of Bobby has obviously made a difference this season.........it's weird watching the lead pack and seeing the 43 car right behind them at times.

On the other hand didn't Chrysler kind leave them high and dry in the late 70's? No support ect...?

No doubt Toyo will take charge of Nascar soon with the amount of money they're gonna throw at...........and thats perfectly within their power to do so. But soon enough it will be like the '80's and '90's............two manufactures racing each other because some one could not keep up with them money wise..............yawn. ::)

Oh...........and keep the regular cup drivers out of the Busch series. It's like having half of the Yankees coming to play for the opposite team in your local softball league. You can't compete with'em.

u think? Cup is different from the Truck series (for one, there is more of an emphasis on equality). Toyota can throw all the money it wants, but the sanctioning body will always be there to give such and such manufacturers concesions to be equally competitive.

Don't forget that Toyota has spent the GDP of several small nations in Formula One and they have NOTHING to show for it.

On a more serious note, I wonder how NASCAR will treat Toyota in the first year or two.

You could argue that maybe NASCAR will make sure they don't win too much right away because the traditionally Detriot-biased fan base already has trust issues with an Asian maker.  Or you could also argue that they'd want a new & questionable brand like Toyota to start winning as soon as possible to make sure they've "set the hook" firmly.

I won't be watching next year anyway  -  I'm not watching much of it now...  but perhaps Kyle is pulling a bluff to try and get more $$$$ from Dodge.   Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

These teams have got it pretty soft spending money.  The sponsorship costs have just escalated and I can't help but thinking a lot of teams are living large.

Just a matter of time before HONDA  and NISSAN jump on the bandwagon since those two have always been on Toyota's tail and trying to catch up.  With that said, the refreshments will then have added to the menu of soy sauce and chop sticks, with a side order of Saki and Chow Mein.  Hot dogs will become a thing of the past as Southerners will stop going to NASCAR events.

Hate to break it to you Hoss, but at the California track you can already get teriyaki bowls, sushi, or tacos. And that's a good thing.

Is anyone really surprised about Toyota? Or NASCAR? Or the fact that teams that have been on a downward spiral for many years would jump at the chance to hook up with a Manufacturer who wants to dump Millions of dollars worth of cars, tech support, parts etc...at your front door?

If DCX is going to drop out after just a few years, it just goes to show how truly lame they are.  :rotz:

Yeah, I live in L.A. My girl is from Oceanside, so I've had the pleasure of sampling Alberto's whenever we're down there visiting her family. It's pretty good, but it's too americanized with all that sour cream and whatnot. The real best mexican fast food is the kind you get at little taco joints in strip malls or from your friendly corner roach coach.

They're not, even if almost all of NASCAR's rules are chevy-based.  If anybody pulls out it'll probably be Ford.  However, I support the Car of Tomarrow program, at least NASCAR's front end for the Charger is a LOT closer to what the production model looks like.  http://www.jayski.com/schemes/2006/COT.htm  (It's about halfway down the page)

if that front end clip was on the real market '06 "charger" - it would look a lot better. The pig nose front end of the "charger" would never hold up in the areodynamic wars.
Still bugs me that those sticker decals of headlights, grille and crap are considered "stock" now to race in NASCAR. After they allowed headlight stickers, they should have changed the name of NASCAR. They are all funny cars now.
