Enclosed trailer?

(not sure exactly where to post this)...Researching enclosed trailers, used primarily to trailer a 69 Charger RT. From what I've read, if used to simply trailer the car, 8.5 x 20 would be about the minimum size. Most of the trailers I've seen have a side door on the right. With an 8.5ft width is it possible to drive a Charger onto the trailer and exit the driver door side? Do you have to exit through the door glass opening? Realize I can install a winch, but trying to keep cost down.  What say ye enclosed trailer folks?

Put in a left side door...

The left exit door is definitely the way to go!  There is another point I have not seen addressed regarding towing trailers in general.

I have years and years of towing RVs and large trailer experience.  The "BIBLE" on trailer towing says 10 to 15 (ideally 12.5) percent of the trailer gross weight should be carried on the hitch.  Moving the load forward and back to achieve that target weight.  A trip to a local weighing station is the ideal place to make that determination.  Hopefully you will be able to use the side exit door and position your car for proper trailer tongue weight.

I have a 1970 Charger and a 24 foot enclosed trailer.  i wouldn't want a shorter one.  It is possible to get out of the car without a left door on the trailer but it is tight.  A left door would be nice but not necessary.  Remember, most trailers are measured including the hitch.  So a 20 foot trailer would not be long enough inside.  I pull it with a Ford diesel 1 ton dually and it is easy to tow.

24 foot is perfect.   V-nose will give you a little extra storage.    Left side escape door for sure.    Six lug 5000 lb torsion axles, as some cheapies will have five lug 3500 lb axles.

..and you won't believe how much NICER my spread axle (shown above) tows without "kidney kicks" than my other enclosed with "normal" axle spacing.

Whatever you buy wont be big enough. A 20 footer will house a b body, but thats it. No room for anything else. I have one and it hauls my wife's nova. A far cry from a charger, and it really doesnt fit much else. Also have a tri axle 32 footer. Its nice, but is jam packed full as well and out of room on race day. If i have the b body in it, we cant take everything else unless its put in another truck... just food for thought. If i were buyjng a new trailer for my weekend warrior, i would go 28 foot. Buy heavier axles and brakes when you order whatever you order. 1 panic stop from an idiot cutting you off and you'll thank me.

What is the towing capacity of the vehicle pulling the trailer ?

Figure that out - then deduct the weight of the vehicle you are hauling.

What remains is the empty curb weight of the trailer you can pull.

That is where you start ....  :Twocents:

Go with largest you can afford or what your truck can pull and stop safely. I have an 2007 28' hallmark that is wide enough to pull in my B Bodies and E Body and still be able to get out of the car without the side exit door. Mostly winch everything in and out anyway so no need to actually get out or in the car.
