That is a nice car. :2thumbs:

It very much is, too bad it's a '66. But on the flip side, thankfully, it's not a '72 or '73.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Bronzedodge

A '66 with factory air!  That is neat.  I'd have to rebuild the Poly with a stroker kit and a 4 bbl to give it some oomph.
Mopar forever!

Care to expand on your comment about the '66?  Is it a first gen playful dig, or something about the '66 vs. the '67?

Recently I talked with a guy I've known for years, who has an unrestored, uncared for '66.  It's been immobile for decades and now it's a pile.  Anyway, we were talking cars and he mentioned that the headlight wiring/power system was kinda odd, and super problematic.  Ended up being so bad that Dodge changed it for '67.  Don't know if any of this is true....

Just curious about the differences between the two years.

A383Wing

66 & 67 had the same rotating headlight system for both years....only the connections on the 4 limit switches up behind the grille were changed

First production build car, Jan 17th, 1966.... options are A/C, clock, and probably the Charger 354 group which included P/S, AM radio, remote drivers mirror, and probably trunk light and glove box light.

Car still sports the factory chrome air-foil wiper blades as well, also still retains the early build radio knobs too

Someone went to the dealer and ordered this car the way it is

Also on the 66 possibly a little later that year on the motors were hand rotate knobs incase switch failure you can rotate headlamps manually.  l found this out on one of the four 66 chargers that l owned way back when.  Back then l didn't know how to decode the fender tag.

No, they weren't... the knob didn't start until the 1970 model year

Beg to differ with ya  Mine was definitely a 66 and on the back of the motors were manual spin knobs to manually open or close the rollover head lamps casings And l owned  this particular one in 75

:iagree:
there wasn't a simple method to open the 1966-'67 Charger electric headlight doors  :scope: I see no knob on the motors

J.Bond

No knobs....

To open , incase of failure, on first gens, see the band clamp holding the headlight motor to the bracket with two bolts....To open , loosen the bolts holding the band clamp , and manually spin headlight bucket and motor assembly, to the open position and retighten the bolts. No knobs required!!

As time has gone bye, 318 poly's, were never something I ever put on my, keep an eye out for ,list. However, being a fan of Chrysler Power mag, and reading up on how these poly guys, have really stepped up to the plate. It really opens up some new avenues for making good horsepower out of an old under dog.

beg to differ with me all you want....there were no knobs on the ends of the 66 & 67 Charger headlight motors...the "knob" you are referring to didn't start until 1970.

To open the headlight doors manually, you had to take a screwdriver and loosen the two motor mounting strap bolts and then rotate the entire headlight bucket assembly including the motors to the open position, then tighten the mounting straps back down to lock the buckets in the open position. This is all spelled out in the factory service manual as posted above

TN Mopar

I like it
But I may be a bit biased

Also no knobs
The headlights could be rotated by hand if you loosened the straps that hold the motors
Easy to do and only takes a flat blade screwdriver through the openings in the grille

Is it just me, or were the first gen Charger interiors of much higher quality than the second gens? Molded door panels, glowing gauges...etc.

Caveat being, I've never sat in a first gen.......

I agree.
Also, I have noticed that the early A body cars seemed to be a bit fancier and has tighter body gaps compared to the 1967 and later models.

You are correct. I have heard some stories that the 1st generations where meant to be luxury cruisers, hence the higher quality interior.  The second generation interiors were made much cheaper - possibly to improve the margins for Chrysler - I have heard that story.  I had my 1st generation restored to original quality including gauges refurbished by instrument specialties.  With the rechroming of everything, gauge work, it was big bucks to redo the interior

J.Bond

First gen interiors were equal to Imperial interiors, the chrome count alone is crazy. It still amazes me, on the ash tray count, 5 trays(4 seats). An interior subject, to one vehicle. I'm sure the cost of the first gen interior and low sales, pushed the standard, one size fits all dashboards, that is common thru all the b bodies, produced from 68 on.
