SUPERBIRD PROPELLER SHAFT

So I am cleaning up my "original" driveshaft from my superbird.  Only problem.....My build sheet states I should have a part number 2996560 shaft that is 50.39" long and 3 1/4 round for a 4 speed dana car.    The one that was in my bird is a
part number 2883730 shaft that is 50.39" long and 3 1/4 round.  And it has Detroit stamped on both ends.   This number does not show up in any of my "all knowing" mopar parts books I have.  Anyone got their original shafts for their bird?  Thanks.   :2thumbs:

Mopar John

John,
Is it possible that the part number 2996560 is for the propeller shaft assembly with yoke and joints?
Then 2883730 is for the tube itself?

MJ  That is a great question....I just would like to know that I have my original shaft?  As silly as that sounds..HA HA.  I was just wondering what other Bird owners have for shaft numbers to see if mine had been replaced.  Thanks.  John

BNB,  Thanks.  I just want someone to look at their drive shaft and see what if the numbers correspond to the numbers that mopar has in the book.  thanks.  :popcrn:

John,
Since the replies are coming one after another I thought I would give you a couple of ideas.
The first one is to contact Mike Mancini at American Muscle Car Restorations.
They did a Hemi Superbird 4 speed OE restoration where the numbers are important.
You can also contact Rob Brombacker who is making new OE driveshafts and see if he has the correct number?
You can reach Rob at: rbrombacker@specproj.com

What's Galen's book say for that application?
I don't have one handy here at work.

No, not that.

1970 broadcast sheets list the last three digits of the propeller shaft part number, in this case as an assembly.

An example from one of my 1970 cars, 752 on the broadcast sheet & 752 on the propeller shaft;

Approximately where on the tube assembly is the number stamped?

Mopar John

So here is a picture of a 440 4 speed Superbird broadcast sheet.
It has 656 in the propeller shaft box.
They must have dropped the last digit because it was a 0?

John,
The OP indicated a '560', your photo example also shows a 560 - just one space off.

Is there a printer stutter on that sheet that caused the 560 to be printed one space too far to the right?

My broadcast sheet(s) show "161" for my P/Shaft. 440-4 x Automatic.

Approximately where on the tube assembly is the number stamped?

Usually near the front of the tube, approximately 12 - 20 inches from the end.

161 is correct in that case.

The 560 is for a 4-speed Dana car.

John,
I've got to agree with Barry on this one. I know the trans code is 676. If you slide all your numbers one digit to the left...they all line up!

I have taken a look at the broadcast sheet and there is no character in the first space and one on top of another in the last space.
So all the numbers need to slide to the left one space. That would give the propeller shaft the correct 560 code.
Thanks Barry and Gary!

Printer spacing errors are quite common, so well worth checking for when coding does not appear normal.
