Agreed & people always pay stupid money at these auctions in an up economy. When the economy falters, that car will resell for 40K.

Didnt make very many 383 4 speed cars. I've got an orange/white interior 383 H code 4 speed 68 charger that I pulled out of a creek. The town of 50 people just pushed their unwanted cars into it.

People who spend that kind of money at auctions often aren't worried about the resale value, they just buy what they like/want. If I had that kind of money I'd do the same.

I had a 68 h code 4 speed no console  is the console correct for a 4 speed  it has 68 top finish    I thought the offset hurst shifter was 69 only  I thought the inland shifter was for a 68 console

Was there really only 259 68 383 4 speed  330 hp chargers built? Seems a very low number was it not the 335 hp motor that was low numbers? I had a 68 383 4 speed charger back in the late 70s early 80s still have the build sheet somewhere.

i'm far from an expert & I await to be corrected  

as far as I know , the 335 horse 383 was only available  in the  68 Roadrunner / superbee
the 68 Charger had two 383s  one being a 330hp four barrel & a 290hp  two barrel.

if you can locate your old chargers  broadcast sheet  you could post up the vin !  maybe it  still exists ?  & or  send info to the 68 registry also Barry of Hamtramck historical. would be good to document another

NO, the manual transmission numbers from GG's "white book" are incorrect

I have always been suspect of this number. I think I have seen more than that number, just in posts on this website.

Also that Charger is nice, but that seems like crazy money for that car. My friend has a bronze on tan 69 383 HP 4-speed car and he hasn't been able to get anywhere near that kind of money for it.
