Since my clone is a 70, the headlight doors were not vacuum.  I've heard about using Fiero headlight motors (no details that I could find).   I'm curious if there is an 'acceptable' or common way of opening the headlight doors other than stock vacuum.

Aircraft spruce has electric linear actuators of different lengths and travel. I would imagine they would be the easiest way to go.

Charger Specialties has electric actuators to replace the vacuum pods. They sell a kit,it's about  $450.00.

Kevin covered linear actuators in his thread ( http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,130009.400.html ) on page 17.  Looks like a great idea to me, so much so that I ran out and got a pair for my project.

While he went to Princess Auto here in Canada, I suspect something like Harbour Freight in the US would have this sort of thing.

I was told that the Charger electric ones are not strong enough for the 'Birds.  Charger Specialties told me that in May 2015.  Please post what you find out.  I am probably going to make a custom electric system with linear actuators.  The mechanism and actuators I would greatly oversize and have to consider keeping doors closed at speed.  I's rather buy something, but have not found anything.

Ready to rock but lots of $$..

Just scroll down a bit!

Chargerspecialties got back to me. The Superbird fiberglass housings will weigh more than they are comfortable with. This leaves me researching:
Honda Prelude system,
Porsche,
linear electric actuators,
electric push pull solenoid.

Maybe that stock vacuum system isn't too bad after all
