That's a shame - I would love to get my hands on an older M6 - wicked good car back in the day...

Funny isn't it...us Mopar loving brits/Europeans go week at the knees at the very sight of mention of a Charger/Challenger etc, but you guys see them all the time....
I see cars like that...all the time...sure it was a good drive in its day, but so Boooooooooooooooooring!
Man, I could cut that car up with an angle grinder and my pulse wouldn't go above 56.....
Ugly hunk of Euro junk...
And yet, you guys think they are great....
Hang on....if I get hold of one in mint condition...who will swap it for a 69 R/T with a Hot 440?
Limey ;D ;D

Ahhh...one of my absolute favorite body styles.  Graceful and timeless.  It looks as up-to-date and marketable as the day it rolled off the assembly line.  The eighties were the high water mark for German automotive design as far as I'm concerned...much like this.

Which reminds of an black M6 that was owned by a guy working at a tire shop where I deliver the mail. They are awesome cars I talked to the guy about it, it was even original. Than a couple of weeks ago it was by the side of building. Totaled wrapped it around a tree from the looks of it. Wonder if he got out ok. Waste of the car though it was gorgeous. I couldn't see a bit of rust on the body. It was his pride and joy. Should have taken a picture of it. It is gone now.

Thats is like the BMW on Moonlighting. . . Try to remember that show from the 80's with Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd. They had a BMW just like that through the entire series. Very cool car.

The one in the pic wasn't mine.  I had an '85 500SE...that's the short wheelbase four door S-class with the 5 liter engine and cloth interior.  It was only available in Europe (grey market car).  The short wheelbase cars could only be bought in the US with the small engines or diesels.

I loved that Merc. and wish I'd never sold it.

The long wheel base came out in 85 and was only for the small engines and diesels... mine is an 84 so it's from before the long wheel base. I like my car a lot. It's very powerful for being a 3L diesel. I like the SDL, log wheel base diesels too. I like them all. It's like driving around in a fortress. The stiff German ride and the weight of the car makes you feel very safe.

Did your car still have the european headlights? they make the car look very modern.

Mine looked almost exactly like yours except it had that medium blue metallic pain which looked almost purple in the sunlight.  The car was federalized by a very reputable grey market firm which basically modified the car to be exactly like an MB that was sold here...that included the sealed-beam headlights.

The only ways you could tell my car was a Euro car were:

1.  The car was a 500SE which was not available in the US.

2.  It had a cloth interior...also not available in the US.

I had some friends who had a REALLY odd one.

They had an '84 380 SE with a cloth interior, CRANK windows, hubcaps, and a standard transmission....hows that for weird?  They had bought the car from a hotel fleet in Hong Kong.  The higher-end hotels in Hong Kong operated fleets of Mercedes-Benzes, Jaguars, Daimlers, or Rolls-Royces to ferry guests to and from airports.

OC, thats awesome. I've always wanted a manual transmission in my car, but it is nearly impossable to find the pedels, shifer linkage, and all the rest of it that is specal for that body style.

I dont know enough about Benz's to know if thats true or not, but my uncle had a late 80's SEC 500, blue with white interior. That was a gorgeous car. I was supposed to "inherit" it at some point, but he had to sell it when his not-so-legal "bussinesses" went bad. I did get to borrow it to go on a couple of dates though...I was 16, just got my license, and I felt like a pimp.

I love the W126 (the chassis number for the 1980-1992 S-Class) Coupes. I've always wanted a coupe with a diesel and a manual trans.
