I have a 70 Charger on a Nascar chassis. The chassis was built by a Nascar fabrication shop in North Carolina.  It was made specifically to fit a 70 Charger. My plan is to build a 200 mph stock car that I can drive on the street!

JR

Oh man I've always wanted to do that

I don't mind the blower as long as it is a real functioning blower.

I have always liked the look of 4 fat tires stuffed inside the body. DRag racing never appealed to me like Road Racing and NASCAR type styling. I had 16X8 IROC wheels on my lowered 76 Camaro with 245-50-16 Gatorbacks....Remember THOSE tires?
With my Charger, that was the goal as well....fit the widest tires that would clear and tuck them in.

Interview with the owner is up on VinWiki.

Awesome story to this car.

Yup. Pretty much. They toured Europe before going bankrupt. None of the actual cast was involved though.

It was an interesting idea but they just couldn't make car chases very exciting in such a small space.  The cars moved slowly around an ice rink and they projected lots of backgrounds to fake high speeds.

Disney tried a live car stunt show at one of their theme parks.  It had more success than the F&F show but it eventually folded after several years.  It had a bigger space (pavement & building sets).  The cars were about 2/3rds scale.  1500 lbs + motorcycle engines + small/hard tires.  No wrecking cars, but lots of precision slides/spins and ramp-to-ramp jumps.

Universal Studios currently has a F&F 'ride' on their Los Angeles backlot (theme park) tour.  It's more like a 3D screens & tram ride thing.

Ghoste

They all just want to be Dukesfest.

ACUDANUT

Mike DC, any actual pic's of these cars that were " about 2/3rds scale.  1500 lbs + motorcycle engines + small/hard tires"
Thanks !!

Mike DC

They used a batch of near-stock Opal compact cars for 'bad guy' cars (painted black).

They custom built several 'hero' cars (red) that were even lighter.  4130 tube-framed fiberglass shells with motorcycle drivetrains. 1300cc, 150 hp, 4 gears forward + 4 gears reverse.

(The cars had live drivers inside for most of the stunts.  I grabbed this photo with the RC controller for a size reference.)

---------------------------

Some clips of the show.  Some precision stuff in the earlier half.  More stunts in the later half:

The show was moderately popular but it closed after a few years due to high costs.  Not only equipment & mechs & drivers, but also the big square footage inside the park.  They could put several smaller rides/shops/etc in that much area.

The very lightweight cars were partly about reducing wear & tear on the mechanicals and partly to reduce the amount of space they needed to do stunts.

ACUDANUT

Thanks, They Look Like 1/2 scale Toyota's. :shruggy:

If you watch the video clip, the show had sort of a European mojo.  James Bond, Ronin, etc.

Comparing the action to an American Dukesfest or Joey Chitwood kind of auto show, it's a night-and-day difference in the vehicle physics.  Ours are all heavy cars & crashes.

I don't know if Fast & Furious will ever try another live show.  But they would be wise to scale down the cars like Disney's show if they did try it.  Fit a lot more stunts in front of an audience.  Break less stuff.

If I had been able to follow through with my 500 replicar stocker it would have been close to where the 71 car sits and only have a 440 for it.
