Hey guys, curious, what did the original 68 charger RT car mats look like?
i own a qq1 blue 68 RT with blue interior and blue carpet and the car mats are like silicone/plastic car mats. Are these original?
anyone have a photo of what the car mats would have looked like for a qq1 blue 68 charger.
thanks a lot

As far as I know, floor mats were not available as a dealer ordered / factory install item. They were only available as an accessory item the dealer would order and install. Here is the floor mat page from the '68 accessory book. As you see, they are a universal / generic style for all models.

Factory floor mats could be had by two different methods back in the day to my understanding.  The first method was that the car was ordered with the factory mats and they were probably placed in the trunk much like the hub caps, antennas and other accessories that the delivery dealer would install.  It is to my understanding that when the mats were ordered in this fashion, that they would appear on the broadcast sheet.  Factory placed mats are exceptionally rare and seldom show up.

The much more common mats were very similar to the factory mats and were sold over the parts counters.  Back in the day, the dealerships that I was around would place a set of these mats in a car as a "Good Will" gesture as a means to sweeten a deal.  These over the counter mats for some dealerships were basically the same mats that you could source from NAPA, Western Auto, etc.  The dealerships for accessories like the mats did not necessarily sell a mat set in any type of Mopar packaging.

Goodmark brought a reproduction of the mats out approximately 20 years ago and I thought that they sold well.  I wish that they were still available.  They were the heavy rubber mats which had scoring marks on the back side to assist in trimming the mats to the desired size for the various applications.

I got my set maybe 2005/06 from mancini , sometime after I noticed all the parts suppliers were saying  black out of stock then! then   discontinued, few places were showing  green & blue in stock , then green went out of stock then just showed blue remaining  , prolly because  blue interior is not that common, then for a good while a few parts places was only listing blue !  ... doubt goodmark them selves will still have them in stock , maybe  search round all the repop parts suppliers etc & maybe the lesser known ones  that might still have them on their shelves ...

Jim,
It has been many years since Goodmark had them available and since the brand now falls under the Keystone / CARiD ownership, they are constantly turning over inventory.  As mentioned above, you might stumble across a set from older inventory from a stocking dealer or a private individual.  I still have a set of green ones that I have not sold, so they are out there, but it is about like finding a set of the original mats.  Very difficult.

I was able to find two weeks ago a pair of the front black tint over the counter mats at a very small swap meet.  I paid $10 for the pair.  Just got lucky to find those pieces.  I also always check the interiors of the cars at the junk yards that I check out.  Have found a couple sets in that fashion over the past 30 years.
