Hi Gentlemen I have a 1968 RT Charger that I'm in the process of restoring and I'm putting the engine back together right now basically have it short blocked and am in the process of installing the timing chain and gears so that I can degree the cam however it's been quite a while since I tore the engine down and now I'm trying to remember if this engine has an oil slinger I went to the Chilton manual and it talks about an oil slinger but it also talks about the smaller engine 318, 360 so I'm not sure I know I kept really good track of everything that came off of the motor and I'm not finding anything that looks like an oil slingerr. Your expertise would be greatly appreciated here and if it does need an oil slinge maybe someone could give me a picture of what it should look like so I can see if I'm just overlooking it. I appreciate your input and thank all of you in advance. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Gary

Hi Gary, welcome to the site. It's a hit or miss thing with oil slingers....some came with em...some didn't. I allways run one to keep the front seal protected. Mancini has them...click the link for a pic and pricing.  ;D

Thanks for the information Ron I do appreciate it I will order an oil slinger for my motor. So tell me that oil slinger fits outside of the timing gear correct? So nothing goes behind the timing gear on that step on the crank? Thanks for you help in advance. Gary

yeah cause i believe it is to protect the front seal from excess oil.
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Yes, that is correct Gary. The slinger fits between the lower gear and the timing cover. Like Mike said ; It protects the seal and also directs oil to the timing chain/gears which are "splash" lubricated.

It looks like a big thin washer and just fits on the crank snout, look through your parts, you may have it sitting right there, good luck.
