Or, be grateful for the time you had with it and sell it to the collector who offered big money for it.  You come out ahead and the car gets restored.

That is what I would do if I couldn't afford to restore it. Sell it and cash out or buy a fully restored 70 Charger. Either way you are ahead of the current status.

Same here, except I'd change "fully restored 70 Charger" to "fully restored 68 Charger." :2thumbs:

Ghoste

For me it would be a 69.  It wouldn't be an easy decision because I'm a huge Dick Landy fan but at the end of the day... :shruggy:

For me Dandy Dick was best known for Chargers in '68 and '69. In 1970 I mostly remember the Challenger as his primary weapon - well the one that got the most ink in magazines anyway.

Ghoste

You make an interesting point because as far as we know Landy never drove the 70 Charger, only Lambeck.  Does that make it worth less?  Lambeck was a pretty top notch driver in his own right and it is still a rarity as far as commonly known Landy cars go.

6PK makes some good points. I would only ad that after storing the car this long and knowing it's worth today will only make it worth more some years from now. Maybe Sites is happy having this history in his garage. Maybe he is living comfortably and wants to hold it till he retires and then sell. Maybe he just makes a flower box out of it. That's completely HIS CHOICE. We have no say in it nor should we. He shared this piece of history with us and that should be enough for all of us. Maybe he's saving it for a gift for his grandson...  My 65' is willed to my first grandson.... Now I have 3 more. Anyone have a bunch of mopars they want to send me for the others??   I'm just saying that it isn't our business to decide what he SHOULD do or HOW he should do it. We were just damn lucky to have him come here and share his story with us. No harm-No foul either way.... I know I would LOVE to come home after fighting with the jerks and morons of this World to my history making car and just stare... Wouldn't you??

Absolutely! I get a kick out of the vast number of people who are quick to quip "If it were mine......."

A - It isn't theirs and unless their opinion is solicited, why waste the breath? One can speculate to themselves quite nicely.

B - 90% wouldn't do what they said if they did have it. Insert any one or multiples of reasons. Money usually hits number one.

Yeah it would be a real kicker to come home every night and see a chunk of history sitting in your garage. While I do applaud the mega-dollar restorations, sometimes originality has its own qualities. The old "You can restore a car a thousand times, but....." rings true.
Whatever Sites does (will do) with it, I'm just glad we all had a chance to see it. Sometimes the high buck stuff goes into air conditioned vaults and is never heard from again.

Well maybe when the lure of B-J comes a callin' :icon_smile_big:

I don't know that anyone is beating him up about his choice (whatever his choice may be), we are all well aware that it is his to make.  The "if it were mine" opinions are no different than discussing 80% of the other topics on the site.  We see something and offer an opinion whether solicited or not because we all have a different idea of the world should be.  No different than "I love your car but if it were mine I would change the rims out for Magnum 500's" or somebody asking how to tune a Carter AFB and somebody else chiming in that Carters are junk and you should only run a Holley dp.  They are opinions and a lot of what we do here is just share opinions with the odd irrefutable fact thrown in for good measure.
It's all no harm no foul.  :icon_smile_big:

Isn't it amazing that the collective knowledge on this forum is so deep! I was kinda upset about the comments about Dick Landy and how it could effect Ron if Dick had seen the remarks. I feel that fate and Ron came together to save this car all be it unplanned. The car could have been lost at any point in the chain of events since 1970 but it sits here "warts and all" to remind us of a grand time in the power wars of that era! Just knowing it made it, and it's story from the day Mr Lambert said "I want a Charger" and Mr. Landy said "OK" is the cat's meow for me! My hat is off to Ron for sharing!

Some of us (well one of us anyway) pretty much slept, ate, breathed not only Mopar but the guys who were heroes in my eyes. I used to get every magazine possible that had Dandy Dick or Sox and Martin in them. My walls at home were wallpapered in wheelstanding Mopars. Now its my garage. :icon_smile_big: Sure it was nice to see hemis wailing away in the other classes, but the SS and later PS were cars you could relate to.

1969chargerrtse

I read every page, interesting stuff.  I don't feel he used the site in a negative way?  He did answer lots of questions.   A update would be nice though.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Ghoste

I'd have to go back and reread it all but I don't ever recall anything negative in the whole thread.  I guess I vaguely recall some concerns about Landy not being too cooperative at first but I think everyone here is a little excited about the car no matter what.

1969chargerrtse

Certainly not important enough to go back and re read everything. There was a blurb about maybe he used the site for his needs and then left. No biggie. Just a comment.  How old are you, you have enough time in your life to re read this thread?  Not me.

I'd rather reread this one than the BK Auto one.  No offense JB. :icon_smile_wink:

Yea I'm not trying to make an issue of anything and I did read this thing out in one sitting! That's why it's fresh in my mind I read it all 3 days ago.  :o

Dodge Don

I think the bulk of recent posts were what they would do...not what he should do. Obviously none of us are in exactly the same position or circumstances as Sites. Innocent daydreaming or making conversation.

That said it is always a pleasure to have the thought police chime in and tell us what we can and cannot say.

Maybe because Charger Aficionado hasn't cut a deal for the engine and gave it to Sites....

What ever happened to this Charger?

I saw sites at Carlisle and was told they're planning to restore the car but they probably will not take it out any more until it's finished.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
