1970 dick landy charger. Value?

I've followed this thread since the beginning and want to add a link to the MOPARTS thread for this historical find. Tony did receive a call from Sites and is saving the DICK LANDY INDUSTRIES HEMI for him. :2thumbs:

So let me get this straight.  The "addict4christ" character that bought the motor for the '69 500 was crucified for buying the motor to flip, but this Tony dude can do it and everyone heaps the praise upon him.

What am I missin' here?

The part where the owner of the 500 for that XX engine was following it on e-bay and the addict4christ dude knew it (as a number of people did) and swooped in at the last second with a huge bid and then immediately called Rick to try and sell him the sniped engine at a hugely inflated profit.

I read his post like he did a lot of investigating, (like talking to Landy) prior to buying it.  The gent who mentioned it to him initially even said it came out of Landy's 70 Charger.  He also says he contacted sites right after purchasing the motor.

Why not pass the information he had on the motor to sites instead of buying it?  The motor had been sitting all these years before it was bought.  It could have sat that much longer waiting for sites to come around.   :shruggy:

Theres a difference between buying something for cheap to sell it for a good or market value price and buying something for cheap only to hold it ransom and sell it at a much higher price and trying to make a sucker out of the person. Its right for someone to make a proft, whats wrong with that? But to buy something out from under someones feet only to dangle it in there face is wrong.

Im glad he got it and is selling it (as far as we know) for a "good" price, then some A-hole getting it and trying to sell it for some ridiculous sum of money.

In another thread, Kevin Shaw brought up the 70 Landy Charger and the fact that Todd Werner was trying to buy the car.  We knew that someone with deep pockets was making an offer to Sites and we knew about Tony D'Agostino finding the Hemi for it.  Since the thread has been dead for a few months and now MCG has run a blurb on the engine I thought it might be time to bring it back.
Here is a copy of what MCG had to say on the engine and it's a sideboard to a Geoff Stunkard column.  It sounds like the engine and car haven't been reunited yet but Tony is still holding it for the current owner.  I'll go out on a limb here and guess that it's still with Sites because I have to think that Werner would buy the engine immediately.
Notably, MCG has a thing there saying to look for a feature on this car in an upcoming issue.  It'd be nice to find out everything was coming together and being restored.

To have something like that is much the same as a $10 gift certificate towards a Veyron. For the average working stiff on normal wages, its almost an albatross around your neck. Its better to leave it as time has made it rather than to do a bucksheet job on it. And to do it correctly would require funds beyond the average person's grasp. Then to have that much tied up into something that has to be trailered everywhere - and most who can drive their cars to shows know that the novelty wears off quickly. And let's not forget how badly that infamous $1.2 million Chevelle got hit at the auction block in today's economy.

To leave it sit (if inside) cannot harm it anymore, and its not like its costing much to store it. And if a lottery gets won - well problem solved. Hell beat it on the track without fear of parts breakage killing you. But the whole iconic status of it makes it difficult without deep pockets.

I agree, I say fix the front damage and clean it up and try to re-letter over the old paint.

Or, be grateful for the time you had with it and sell it to the collector who offered big money for it.  You come out ahead and the car gets restored.

That is what I would do if I couldn't afford to restore it. Sell it and cash out or buy a fully restored 70 Charger. Either way you are ahead of the current status.
