::) Its handy to have a summary when threads get lengthy like this. Most of the time they are usually filled with irrelevant posts.

If you just want to find posts from the owner of this car for a quick summary, although you will miss out on some cool pictures along the way, type "sites" in the search box. He's the owner of the car.  Or go to the first page, click on his username and then select last posts of this member down below.  He only had 36 posts and they mostly pertain to this thread.  Can't get any easier than that. :2thumbs:
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Thanks man, didn't realize he was a low poster . Normally Id take the time to go through a thread like this but I came in late and my web is a pos right now. Ill set some time aside next time for Magnum's sake :poke: :D

That would be a good idea...and for the sake of all of the relevant information presented in this thread.

I read the entire thread again yesterday...it's quite the piece of work - especially the collective mindset about Dick Landy himself.

Well one can get the gist of it from just Sites posts but you were right Magnum, I just went through it and there was a lot of other interesting posts in this thread.

Low and behold...this picture was in it.....shamWOW!
Thanks for posting that pic!! :o I bet Sites will be glad to see that pic next time he check out this thread. The best part is that it looks so clear...almost looks like it was taken last week. Looks like that Cragar sticker on the front fender is about the only one left from the originals.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

you could always "DONATE" it to me :drool5:

Hi All

I thought id throw my 2 cents in to this thread

A little over a month ago I bought a pair of  hemi rocker stand assemblies at a small swap meet in Maryland, not far from Hurlock Md (where Willie Turner lives ).

In talking with the seller he asked if I would be interested in a 70 Hemi engine, of course I said yes.

As we were talking about it for  awhile he said it came out of a 70 Hemi Charger.
That sparked my interest because years earlier I bought a 70 Hemi Charger w/o an engine, so I asked what color the car was, he replied that it was Landys 70 Hemi Charger. I recalled the article in Mopar Muscle about it + all of his facts seemed accurate.
He even signed stating that he bought the motor from Willie Turner in or about 1975 + that he saw the motor come out of that car.

After reading more about it on the web I saw that someone on the Mopar Muscle Magazine site posted that they owned the motor + was away over seas for many years.
That is a lie according to the fellow I got the motor from, when I asked the him about this + he said that guy who posted under the name "fredmudd" was someone who comes by his shop occasionally and was trying to sell the motor before he had bought it. (this was the first the guy I bought the motor from had heard of it but was able to put the story together by specifics the fake owner of the motor mentioned.)

The motor has the home/shop built deep aluminum oil pan with holes for a center link + external oil system swinging pick up, chrome Hooker Headers in very good shape, Landy modified rat roaster intake + super stock hemi carbs.

I spoke to Mike Landy (Dicks brother) and he confirmed all of the items + stampings on the motor all matched what they would have used and done at the time.

This is where I feel the story starts to get crazy and leaves me scratching my head.

After getting the motor I contacted the Sites + offered it to them at a very reasonable price (nothing added to its value because it belonged to their car, just the value of a 1970 hemi motor/parts + little extra for the aftermarket parts that go with it ) and didn't hear back from them.  I called a week or two later + the wife said her husband doesn't get home from work til 7pmish so I gave her my cell ph #,  still no call back, I mean not even to discuss it, nada , nothing.

So I was told by some people in the know that they were offered allot of money (in the area of 200k) for the car but  still haven't sold it. I was told that Todd Werner, a collector of factory race cars, muscle cars + such was interested in the car, + I know he has other Landy cars so I contacted someone who works with him + offered Todd the motor thru him (figuring down the road that they would end up with the car) and they weren't interested,  I even offered them the Landy aftermarket parts with the motor (figuring it may be of value to them for another of their factory race cars) + they weren't even interested in those.

I would love to see the motor reunited with the car it came out of, but I don't want to store it for an uncertain amount of time for the owner or potential owner to realize this motor belongs with the car.  I know a 1970 Hemi motor isn't the worst thing to have hanging around either, but I just cant understand why the owner and a very serious potential owner don't have an interest.

I guess it has to fall into the category of things that make you go hmmmm

Ghoste

Not knowing any other details to add I think the only thing I could offer you would be a suggestion to be patient for a little bit.  This story has a feeling like its one of those things that are just meant to happen.  Thats why its called "Car"ma. (sic)

:o wow intresting  :yesnod: ..yeah don't make sence , its like finding a needle in a hay stack as it is finding your original numbers matching motor ... then not wanting it  :shruggy:  ...... would be no brainer for me if mine was located :yesnod:

thanks for sharing this story Tony :2thumbs:

Wow. I have to believe if you were able to reunite the original DL engine with that car it would be worth alot more. If it were me sitting on the DL 70 Charger I'd snap up your offer pronto without a second thought.

Blakcharger440

Their response or lack of it says it all. Seems they dont want to vest anymore into the car. I would not keep it just because you think they might want it....some day. Jeeeez there shouldnt have been an hour go by before they didnt plunk down the money for the engine. Do the VIN numbers on that block match the Landy car or was it simply one of multiple engines Landy had ran in that Charger?...Maybe I need to read the whole story again as it has been awhile since I read through this whole saga.

Maybe your idea of a "very reasonable price" and theirs doesn't match up.  Hence them giving you the cold shoulder.  :shruggy:

Aero426

I thought the owner said he still had an unassembled machined Hemi to go back in the car.    Why not sell or trade that and get the right engine?

Ghoste

You're right Doug, in his very first post he states that he still had a Hemi that he bought 30 years ago that he would sell with the car.

That idea may not be far off the mark. After all, the car has been stored all this time without having to put any money into it...then Sites may have gotten the finances a little low, so he decided to sell it & checked in here first as to what it's value might be, before advertising it. Then he's suddenly aware that it's worth much more than he had been thinking, so in the excitement, he put a bunch of time & money into it because he enjoys the idea of owning a piece of really cool history.
However, if he happens to be a broke guy like me, there's only so much money a guy can throw into something like this before it becomes a burden on the wallet. So now he's facing the 'ol rock-n-hard spot...does he sell & make "X" amount of money today, or does he hang onto it for a while & see if larger offers come up later? I'm sure he would kick himself if he sold today for $200K, then found out in six months that the next guy flipped it for $500K or something.
Although, getting that kind of money from it would be more likely with the correct engine in it.

So, he's basically out nothing to hang onto it for a while. Although, the part about not trying to make a deal on that engine is a bit odd, but maybe something's currently happening in his personal life that has suddenly placed this whole thing way at the bottom of the importance scale.

As far as the decision to hang onto the engine or not, that's up to you. As asked earlier, does that VIN on the engine match the car's VIN, or is it just a replacement race engine? If it were me, I'd probably rat-hole it somewhere & see what happens...but that's just me.

I don't feel as though we were used. I feel that we had a fun time helping identify a cool part of Mopar history...I never expected to get anything more out of it than that. I agree that an update would be welcomed.

Oh & we got honorable mention in some magazine.
