Thanks for the update.
That's gotta be pretty neat for you to see it show up in magazine articles. Looking forward to future updates. :)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

My son came across a post today on MoparMuscle.com's forum. This gentleman apparently has the hemi and trans that used to be in my car. I hope to talk to him soon. Check it out....

Man, that would be the thing to make that car a perfect piece of racing history indeed!  :coolgleamA:

He already owns the car.  He found the original engine and trans.

Man, As many times as i've been on this site and just now seeing this thread. This is a very cool story and I hope that maybe you can get ahold of that original engine. I hope to see it some day.  :drool5:

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

Ghoste

The engine and trans in the car now, is it the one that was used to race and the original was pulled by Landy for whatever reason or what is the story there?

Hey "Ghoste"
My understanding is that the engine and trans in the car now were installed by Willie Turner, the gentleman we bought the car from. We never knew what happened to the original engine and trans. We were recently informed by a gentleman who has been overseas since way back when, that he has the original engine and trans that he bought from Willie. This should be the engine and trans that was in the car when Dick Landy raced the car. We haven't been in direct contact with this guy yet, but we hope to be soon.

Ghoste

Now that would be an incredible chapter to add to this story wouldn't it?  I hope it works out and you cna put a deal together with this guy and get the original drivetrain back with the car.  Thanks for the update and I know you'll keep us posted.

That's great to hear about the original engine/tranny - can't wait to see what comes about after your first contact with that gentleman... hopefully he realizes the signficance of it and doesn't let greed overcome him... you have a HEMI and the 440 out of the car, sounds like good trade bait to start (and probably some $$$ to go with it)...

good luck and keep us updated!

Sites!  Ron!!  You are one cool guy.  Unless the engine & trans combo you are being offered have the serial number
of the car on them:  They aren't original.  Those numbers or proof from DLI that this engine was used by DLI in the
car are what will make this engine valuable to you.  Without documentation...may as well use the Hemi you have.

About Mr Landy,
You just can't help but discover him & his accomplishments while finding out all you can about Chargers through the
years.  My first impression of him was reading about his 69 Charger in its deview in HotRod (late 68).  There he was
justifying the use of a 440, instead of a Hemi.  It was because he felt more people could utilize his experimenting on
a more readily available engine.  Rules changes in the early 70s were hard on the MoPar loyals like Mr Landy.  Tricks
& fabrication time involved in making engines competitive while still being legal were more & more ellusive - just as
rules were more & more biased against MoPar.  Chrysler took it personnally.  Chrysler has had no choice but to take it
personnally in more modern times as well.  Did Mr Landy take it personnally?  He seemed like he did in a 1973 interview.
I thought he was leaving that between the lines though.

I believe the quote about fame & money was not meant to be about money but about a fan that was bothering him
at the time - something that would not be possible if the money was different.

Overall, through 17 pages on Ron's Landy car:  most have tried to see things from Mr Landy's perspective.  Commendable!

Thought I'd bump this up since the other Landy Charger post is up, and I'm curious if that engine Sites was being offered was the correct engine for this car? And, what has happened since we last heard from Sites? Anyone know?

I was wondering when someone was going to bring this one back from the abyss. :icon_smile_cool:
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

This shot should help bring it back from the abyss...if only temporarily.
I've got a buddy here in Halifax, Sandy Colter, who can be considered the local Mopar "guru".
After moving down here last summer, I finally met him at a local car show.
Right now, I'm doing a bit of research into a Canadian Racer by the name of John Petrie.
Sandy had a photo album full of great pictures shot at a local racetrack back in 1970. He loaned me this album last thursday and I've begun scanning the contents tonight.
Low and behold...this picture was in it.....shamWOW!

I was just going to ask if Sites sold the car, kept it, wha wha?!

This is like the bulb burning out at the last 10 minutes of a movie. :'(

(Or should I say, "Has anyone had correspondence with Sites?" The last posting from him has apparently been sometime ago.)
