Here's the article. I am not the best at scanning, so if better ones come in, I will change them.

With Mr. Sites permission, I would love to add all the great photos he has posted here on the site as well.

I like that crew cab racecar hauler in the bottom scan. :scope:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Thanks for the picture, 6pkrunner, it's printed and in my scrapbook and I'm glad it's back on the thread.

Thanks for all the advice on what to do with the car. I think I will keep it unless I get a good enough offer. Come on, you know you'd do the same. Barrett-Jackson may fetch the highest price, but it would probably need to be restored to pristine condition first. This may require an investment of up to $100,000. I could do this, but I don't think it's worth the gamble and I know I don't have the time. I hear it may also take up to 3 years to have one of the top shops do it. If I sell, I think it'll be as-is. I've already had offers, but I don't think I should accept any until the Mopar Muscle article comes out. The article was originally just for fun and to share the car, but it's about the only exposure the car will get besides this website. I think it might be cool to accept a restored car as part of a trade. It would have to be a driver though or I'd be back in the same situation I'm in now. Thanks again to everyone for the help and interest. This website and Carlisle, at least on Sunday, are the most fun I've had with the car.

I think Mikesmopars01 had the right idea.

If you are selling, I think the whole board should get together and buy it, and we can keep it at my house.

It would be all of ours of course.

What do you guys think?? :yesnod:

Then I'd know the right thing would be done with it.

I know I said this before (at least I'm pretty sure I did) but I wouldn't do anything to it other than trailer it down to Barret-Jackson as-is. Sounds like you most likely agree. In reality I just don't see a restoration doing anything to increase it's value enough to justify doing it, especially if you really don't want to mess with it. If you only spent a few thousand to buy it your rate of increase will be much higher than if you spent $100k restoring it IMO. Plus, I wouldn't want a bunch of purists breathing down my neck and worrying about the accuracy of the restoration for three years or so. But that's just me and my opinion. I would rather sell it, buy a nice (finished) classic Charger, invest the rest of the money in paying off my house or whatever, and let someone else worry about it. It really boils down to what you originally wanted out of a '70 Charger and if this particular car will provide that. Do you want a bunch of publicity and the chance to revive history or do you just want to occasionally drive a classic Charger and pretty much be left alone?

6pkrunner

On this one I too am torn Bull. While a car is only original once and this one is a piece of history - I'd love to see her as she looked new. Maybe a solution would be to get another 1970 - one that is worse for wear and make her a clone of Dick's as she was on her first public showing, and have the original as it now sits beside her. Yeah more money outlay, but the piece is just too neat not to have a glimpse of what she looked new.

Anyone got a 8x11 or so nice color shot of the old girl when she was fresh? I'd love to swing a deal to rent the picture for a trip here and back to you.

Someone would do it I'm pretty sure. If I were a Landy fan I'd be more of an advocate of the current owner restoring it, or selling it to someone who would restore it back to its original Landy scheme. But I'm not a Landy fan other than to say we have a common interest in Chargers, and I'm willing to bet my love for them is stronger than his.

Ghoste

But you would like to see it restored?

6pkrunner

While I will not deny Landy's sentimental committment versus the coin generating angle he self-evidently likes, his cars were mind-blowers to me in 1968. That Coke-bottle style with his paint scheme just plain did it for me. Add the Cragars and.......
We can discuss his dedication/devotion/involvement or lack thereof, but his cars still blew me away as objects of affection.

Then, as you so clearly stated, would be the headaches defending and justifying how the car appeared at a certain point in history. All these race cars (everyone's) changed race to race, with sponsors dropped and added, paint changes after guardrail mishaps, - well you know. So you make your, say June 17, 1970 version and show it off and the June 10 and August 14 devotees crawl out of the woodwork to cut you to pieces. ;D

Oh yea. Of course I think it should be restored to look exactly like it did when Landy was racing it, only new.

But getting back to the original post by the original owner it sounds as if he doesn't want to mess with it, and I can empathize with him on that simply because of all the hype that's been generated. My advice to him is to follow that feeling (because I would do the same thing) and actually ride the hype to a record high sale, avoid the trouble of restoring a Charger (much less a Landy Charger), buy a nicely restored 2nd gen to drive and enjoy, invest the extra money and cruise around fat and happy in a beautiful '68, '69 or '70 R/T while a bunch of anal-retentive purists piss, moan and argue over how the infamous Landy '70 should be restored. That's all. Unless the guy enjoys stress and blowing money, and worships Landy to the point of sacrificing his sanity to glorify Landy's racing career, I say get rid of the car and be glad you were smart (or lucky) enough to sit on it all these years without having done anything to it.

Boy Racer

Did anyone see the Speed Channel "Muscle Car" marathon on Friday? Near the 10 minute mark of the Barracuda/Challenger show, they showed some vintage footage of a drag race. It was a helicopter shot, and it flew over the staging lanes, and there, in one of the more left-hand lanes, near the front of the queue, was (what appeared to me, in the 0.3 seconds I saw it) a second-gen Charger in what appeared to be Landy colors. If one of y'all has that show on DVD, could you check and see if I'm not completely crazy, please? TIA.

Something like that should go to a big auction like Barrent Jackson. Theres no telling what somebody might pay, $100,000 would not surprise me. It not to clean but you did not even wash it so its hard to tell. How did you get it and why was it not driven? How many miles and is anything wrong. Those are what the pros like to know. You have something there. Be careful and Good Luck.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Blasphemer.

yeah know, just always wanted to use that icon. I said in an earlier post that car should have the damage repaired, and then go to Big Daddy's Museum.

Bull and 6pkrunner, you've stated it just the way I see it. Sell it as is and let someone else make all the restoration decisions and have all the headaches. If the buyer has the time, money, dedication and interest, he may actually enjoy the project. One potential buyer has connections that may be willing and able to secure a series of follow-up Mopar Muscle articles on the restoration of the car. That would be cool. I'd like to see the car get as much exposure and recognition as possible and secure itself a place in history, however insignificant it may be. I've had a few offers on the car, but I'm having a hard time letting it go. Two guys offered their wives in trade. I've been watching for the UPS truck, but they haven't arrived yet. I'd like to do everything I can with the car before letting it go and regretting it later. I'm beginning to have some sentimental attachment to the car and I'd like to think I did everything for her that I could while I had her. The '70 Charger Registry is something I should look into, if they're still interested. I may also contact some other mags to see if there's any interest. I'm still considering repairing the accident damage and taking it to a few shows. I can't decide.

TruckDriver

My feelings are, that if you can not decide what to do with the car, keep it for now. It is better the selling it for some lowball offer, then regretting it down the road, when the buyer is laughing all the way to the bank. I think you do have a good idea though as far as just fixing the damage to the front end, and showing it for a while. Either way, by the time you do sell it if that is what you decide, you should get enough to buy your dream car.
