WAY COOL!!! So, personally, I'd keep it because it is one of a kind.  :yesnod:

By the way, are you now going to let Mopar Muscle Magazine run the story of the car?

Thanks for putting up all those pics guys.  I suppose in my case it's a biased case of hero worship, but I don't think Landy has been too unreasonable at all.  I would think that a lot of people have tried to make money off is name over the years.  For that matter, there was a fake car making the rounds a few years back so people HAVE made money off of his name and reputation.  He certainly has a right to protect it.   Your name and rep are all you really have aren't they?
:iagree:  :yesnod: . also if it were me i would not sell .  it would be cool to leave it unrestored ,but realistically ,it should because it could only be a static disply other wise .

Quite right, I couldn't agree more.
Not having been in those type of situations myself, that's something I hadn't thought of & I couldn't blame him one bit.

Race cars had their batteries relocated to the trunk. He may have done his own special type of brackets back then &  he was making sure the car looked like it should. (just my guess)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Ron,,
Ever determine what you're going to do?...... Restore and keep, restore and sell or just save the restoration money and sell outright?............  Just curious........ You've gone through quite alot, but emotionally and all.... You must be exhausted from it all...........

Hi Guys,
Sorry I haven't responded to any of your postings recently. I'm an air conditioning contractor, it's really hot here and I've been swamped. I will respond when I get a little free time. I'm still trying to catch up on the work I missed when I went to Carlisle. I think that's the second time I took off a week day in 30 years. We've been having correspondence with Mopar Muscle Magazine. They've asked some questions about the history of the car I can't answer. We just contacted one of the previous owners, Ed Thomas, to fill in some of the blanks. Earlier in this thread, we posted some information that Ed's wife, Freda, had sent us. One article had incorrectly stated that Ed's Challenger was the national record holder. Ed said he never raced a Challenger and that the record holder was actually his ( my ;D) Charger. Cool. :icon_smile_cool: Troy, thanks for defending me on that other web site. I never meant to offend or disrespect them. I will respond to them when I have a little more time.

Great story. If it were me I would probably be inclined to sit on the car for another 5-10 years, doing nothing major to it in the meantime. Get all the documentation together now, keep the buzz going and then haul it to Barrett-Jackson when you most feel like adding about $300k or more to your bank account. Are you close to retirement age? If so I think this car will definitely put you over the top in that dept. If/when you sell it you could buy a nicely restored 440 R/T Charger for about 1/8 the money and let someone else deal with the headaches because unless you've restored cars before, restoring one this historically important is going to be a very expensive and painstaking hassle. At least 30 different people are going to be pissed off with the results, even if it looks perfect to everyone else. And even if you just dropped the engine in and fixed the body damage you would probably be somewhat tepid about driving it I would think. I would be. One spark from the notoriously dangerous, 36-year-old wiring harness could end in a smoldering pile of goo. And in all honesty I don't really know if you'd be adding all that much value (if any) to the car if you spent $50k and five years restoring it. In many ways this car is more valuable as-is than restored. But that's just me. I'm not a huge Landy fan but I am a huge Charger fan and in my mind a car with this much importance to so many people makes it more trouble than I'd be interested in tackling.

By the way, who says procrastination doesn't pay, right? You inadvertintly sat on a special Charger for 30 years and increased its value by what, 400 times what you paid? How much did you pay for it anyway? That is one hell of an investment if you ask me.  Had you jumped right on the project and painted it red or purple you probably wouldn't be having this conversation now. Doing nothing for the past 30 years is the best thing you could have done. Like I said, it's just my opinion but I'd sit on it for a while longer, sell it at B-J and then buy a perfect '68 R/T 4 speed Charger, put the other $250-$300k in the bank and go on about my business.

Ain't that the truth!   ::)

I would leave it as original as possible. Rechrome the wheels, fix the front end. The interior sure doesn't look like it needs anything.

My wife, Rose, spoke with Dick Landy and Bob Lambeck on the phone a few days ago. She thanked Dick again for the authentication and tried to find out if we could get copies of the records he had on our car. We thought it would help preserve the lagacy of the car and help with details if the fcar were to be restored. His contract implied that the car should be restored to the way he had it and we thought he could help us with details so we could. No go. Didn't seem interested. He said to make it about the same as the '69 diecast. Thanks. We had been informed that Bob Lambeck might have our fender tag so we called. Thanks for the number magnumcharger. He said he didn't have it. Rose says he was really nice and helpful and fun to talk to. She directed him to this thread of dodgecharger.com while on the phone and he loved it. He really seemed to enjoy reading and takling about the car. He offered to help us any way he could. He says he and Dick still have lunch a couple times a week. I met Todd and Chuck at a car show a few months ago when we went to see Ed Thomas, one of the car's previous owners. Check out the e-mail and pictures Todd just sent us. He's supposed to get back to us with any more info he can dig up. Chuck's the one who told me that Willy Turner was the last owner before me. Both have nice restored Chargers, so I advised them both to become members. Todd's is a '70, so we also referred him to the registry.

Hi Ron,
I spoke to you at the car show at the Hyatt with Chuck Hughes.I have a 70 charger r/t ,but it was not there that day.Anyway a man I work with had some photo's of the car back before Willy T. had it I scanned some he had and thought you might get a kick out of these. They were taken at a track down in VA.Let me know if you get these pictures ok.Congrats on getting the car documented that's a big step on which way you want to go with it.
           Hope to hear back...............Todd MacGillivray

Great photos for sure! Cool how history repeats itself a bit with the photo of the two ladies and the photo of your two daughters.  :yesnod:

Now that the 'ol timers are talking about it some I hope more information comes your way.

Thanks for the updates.

It also seems like Landy himself is the least excited about the whole affair, but then again it also sounds like he never actually drove this one.
