68 charger rear window

The rear window uses butyl for weather stripping right? Is there a correct thickness? I cant seem to find much information on installation. Mine didn't have anything when I bought the car.

Thank you  I know when I did my wife's 71 (dare I say it ) Chevelle. It had to be a special thickness so the trim would fit right.

If you use the tape, wait a few days before installing the trim as the trim tends to squeeze the butyl out and reduce the seal.

Do test the seal, I sprayed water around and then used an air gun at about 10PSI, at a distance, to try to blow water thru the seal.  Found some leaks and pushed the butyl into the crack and everything is tight!

With the rust repair in mine, I used the tape and a bead of Urethane windshield sealant around the perimeter. NO leaks and it was my first glass installation!

you will pay for that mistake in the future if you have to remove the glass for any reason. never use urethane on a classic car if the glass is hard to come bye. its all hard to come bye after 50 years. friend had put 1/4's on his Daytona in the 90's glass guy used urethane while recently had to remove rear window ,need I say anymore as the man on the radio said "now for the rest of the story"

The rear window is surely more durable than the windshield. Urethane can be cut out. I've even used wire, sawing back and forth with a man inside and a man outside.
