Very Weird 4-Speed Question

My question is about a 70 Bee with 383 4-speed.  We just took it for its first drive since buying it, and it would seem that 4th gear and 3rd gear are mixed up! Yep, shift from second to 3rd and you actually get 4th. Shift from 2nd to 4th, and you get 3rd. Weird....... Could this be a wrong linkage or linkage hooked up improperly?  What else could it be?

Rocky

Sounds like you have an overdrive transmission, and somebody hooked up the linkage like the regular 4 speed.  I think you just have to flip some of the linkage around, but I can't say for sure.  I don't have much 4speed experience.

:iagree:

The 3-4 lever is flipped on the overdrive tranny. Most of the overdrive 833's are aluminum so that is a good way to tell if you have one.

on a normal 4 spd the levers are all pointed up from the pivot point , i fyou have the OD the front lever should be down , if it is up now just flip it & tweak the linkage so it will shift smoothly , , if the front lever is down now turn it up , this will correct the problem

shawnmd

Problem fixed.....It was a normal a833 with the lever installed incorrectly.  Thanks
