ok I ve made the call and i am going a Borgeson unit but theres always a catch,,

I d like to stick with the factory steering pump

Will the original pump cope for the new box ?????? the optimal pressure for the new box is 1100 to 1250 psi

well well i ve been doing some research and it looks like the difference between pumps were across the differing body sizes

"So what was the difference? Operating pressure. The A bodies were 750 to 850 psi, B bodies and hemi 950 to 1050psi. Also shared with the big block A bodies in 69 and the AAR/TA in 70. The C bodies except 318 1100-1300psi."

and the one i have is via a 68 imperial so woo hooooo

The "optimal" pressure is desired but it will work with pressures less or more than optimal. Here's the factory pressures:

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

This is a difficult area, but you can go in and change the pressure relief on the pump by removing or adding shims to the relief valve when you rebuild your pump.  Your going to need the gauges and fittings to test it on the car.  Or send off to a reputable rebuilder.  The problem is you can't really tell by looking at a used pump what model it was originally built for. But they will be in the ball park, and you may not be able to feel the difference.
