I know this should be in the motor transmission section but not every one that knows the answers looks there
Move this topic after I get some replies please to right section

I picked up a 4 spd transmission hoping to put it in a Charger but now thinking it is not right one

Can anyone tell by the numbers what car it started out life in ?

A 69 car built at Hamtramck.
You'll have to count the splines on the front.
18 spline = 440 and Hemi.
23 Spline - everything else.
Too bad the ink stamped numbers aren't on it anymore.

Is there a diff between B and C body?

6bblgt

the main case 9B330775 started life in a CANADA spec. (Y07) Dart

2789 = assembly date = Monday 3/17/69

the main case is the same but A-bodies had a shorter tailshaft than B-bodies

Yes it is the 23 spline and seems to be the shorter tail stock on it  :brickwall:

So the only one that this is good for is in a Dart ??

It also came with this odd looking bell housing
Seems to have the bolt pattern on it for small block and big block motors

Is it anything worth keeping or just let it go with transmission and keep looking for the longer style 4 spd for B body

We also have this standard transmission around out of an early 80's Dodge truck 6 cyl
It is a 3 spd with 4th gear being over drive

So question would be is the tail part the same and could just be swapped over ?

Or would it be better just to use as it is and have an overdrive built right in ?

The little plate on the side of this one reads    RR833  6  24  87

Could you post a new pic of big an small block bell housing? thanks.  it did not show up for me ?

the 4spd OD trans and bell have value to some of us /6 guys . the bell has twin trans bolt pattern ,OD or 3 spd.

I have afew OD trans that have stood up to /6 burn outs  . but hear  comments ,not good behind big blocks or hard take offs with wide tires.

form my brain?   to fit a b body ,top of bell to tip of trans about 36 inch, a body 3 " shorter an trans mount different spot?

This is just what I got with the 4 spd stuff
It looks like it has two sets of mounting to the motor holes
One set is in a bigger circle around outside than the other
