I have no documentation on the motor before I bought the car.(1998) Car has a total of 153K miles on it. Original owner said a mechanic friend of his rebuilt the motor at 100K miles. (prob around 1980), 383-4 H code

It ran OK and I wasn't racing or interested in modifying it so I just left well enough alone and restored all the external stuff.

Last Fall the motor started running real rough. I am not an engine guy, so I took to my mechanic and he said it had a burned value. After sending the heads out for a total rebuild, it made a weird noise which sounded like leaky exhaust and it seemed to lack power. But I couldn't really test it until after the break-in period. Anyway I was very unhappy and took it back to them a couple of times, They returned it and checked the exhaust and said they couldn't find a problem (argh!).

Finally they got the headbuilder up to take a look and there was a "defective" pushrod. I got no more explanation than that.

Any now it is back to it's old self. When I was out Cruisin with my Cousins after the Billetproof show in Centraila, Wa, I discovered that it will (once again) "break them loose", just by mashing the excelerator :)

3.23 sure grip and 275 60 15 tires.
