10 inch rear drums ?

did 69 r/t se's ever come with 10 inch rear drum brakes.

I believe disk brake cars came with 10" drums out back.

Drum brake cars had 11" on all four corners.

how about a 742 case in my 8.75 rear end, could it have came stock in my 69 r/t se? this complete rear end that was in the car looks completely originole complete with sure grip and use only sure grip lube tag and 3.73 ratio tag, doesn't look like it was ever removed from car.and has 10 inch rear drum brakes.

3.73 was never available from Mopar , could be a 3.23 tag ?

The ratio in my Demon is 3.73 on an 8-3/4. I was told it came out of a mail truck.

3:73 is an aftermarket ratio.  No 742 case in a 69 either.

the gear ratio tag does say 3.23 not 3.73 and it has the clutch style sure grip.thanks for the help. but what about the 10 inch rear drums?

drums up front - 11" drums all around.

discs up front - 10" drums in the rear.

3.73 was indeed a factory ratio but not in a 742 housing, it could be found in both the 1 3/4" stem and 1 3/8" stem but only in the older 985 and 657 housings respectively. Fairly common in heavy six cylinder standard shift cars and light trucks.

The 742 housing was used in '69, mostly on Canadian built C bodies and also as late as '70 in Canadian built C bodies.

318 cars came standard with 10in drums on all four, never seen disc brakes on a 318 car

383 cars came standard with 10in drums on all four, if they had disc brakes they would have rear 10in drums

RT cars 440 HP & Hemi, came standard with 11x3 drums up front and 11x2-1/2 rear. front disc brake cars
would almost allways be 10in rear drums.

I thought 985 and 657 were both 1/38?  That's still cool to know though  We used to crawl under the 6 cylinder vans and trucks looking for 3:91's so I'll have to look at older ones and watch for the 3:73s too.  I've never seen one as oem before.
I'm in Canada so I'll start checking those C-bodies more closely too.  Pulled a lot of 8/34 pigs out of them but never noticed the castings hadn't changed.  Just goes to show, you gotta always keep your eyes opened.  If I find any with a 742 and a Sure Grip that will be helpful too.  Thanks John.
