this gorgeous 69 is coming up for auction here down under in less than a months time.
Never seen red interior before. Did they come with red interior?
Anyways thoughts.

Yes, I have seen a few 68-70 chargers with red interior. Not sure if that is what that car was born with, would have to see the build sheet.

jefferson

Beautiful looking 69 id say.
If i didnt have my 68 id be very interested for sure.

bakerhillpins

I've seen several Red interior chargers over the years. And as I understand it if you wanted a red car with a red interior you had to special order and get approval from Chrysler to have it produced. I also understood that there was something specific on the build sheet to detail this approval. It's been at least 9 years since I looked at a car like that. Still have pics of the fender tag I think. The seller didn't or couldn't find the broadcast sheet but knew that her late husband had it somewhere. (dissapointing)

so the charger in the auction ive posted is somewhat of a rarety? Also seeing as it has a woodgrain dash, wouldnt that make it an SE also, dont see any SE badges anywhere though. But then again i dont know the history of the car, maybe its been restored at some point over the years and the badges are missing or perhaps it wasnt originally an SE and its had a woodgrain dash put into it. Not sure.

Well, not necessarily. All that I see at that link is pics. Nothing about it's OEM configuration (as you elude to). So rarity isn't really something I'm trying to comment on for this particular car. Mostly just trying to comment with regard to you mentioning you had never encountered a red interior Charger before.

Red interior cars were not something I've personally seen a lot of so from my perspective that leads me to believe it's at a minimum uncommon. There were some stats in the 69 registry about this stuff at one point but I don't know the status of the registry and that data now.

I think it is this car that sold from here (US) in January 2016:

https://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/dodge-charger/231791740852?hash=item35f7dd47b4

Not 100% sure since the dash would have been changed to woodgrain and headrests added.  But you can see the fender tag showing C6R for the red interior.

many small differences that could happen over 3-years with a paint job & other maintenance/restoration work  :Twocents: but I don't think it is the same car

will the auction company share the VIN?  is it  XS29L9B175084 ?

Is this true? I have a 69 R6 RT with red interior. Have fender tag but unfortunately no broadcast sheet which is too bad because the car was optioned pretty good. 6-way seats, rear defroster, etc.

6bblgt

R4 "bright red" with a C6R "red" interior was NOT on the recommended list & may have required a V08 "trim edit waiver"

R6 "red" with a C6R "red" interior is on the recommended list

Excellent! Thanks for clarifying. Looking over that trim table I wonder if they actually made chargers in all of those color combinations? Sliver with White or Green interior would be interesting to see!

$80k > $90k Price guide sounds reasonable. I've seen a lot worse for not much less.
If I had the space I'd be very interested.

Hey TPR, as you and i both own 68 chargers here in AUS, we both know that now days you honestly could not import one in that condition for 80-90k.
Especially with the dollar ATM. So yea 80-90k doesnt seem to bad. Really nice looking charger IMO

6bblgt

XS29L9G241088 was at Russo and Steele - Scottsdale, AZ 2012 & "SOLD" for $47K

That's the one. Thanks 6bb.

Silver seems like its the most likely to have a red interior. This sold 18 years ago, I should have bought it. All original numbers matching 383 four barrel car, not one tad bit of rust. The main reason I should have got it. it was Richard Sias's personal car he bought new, was still in his name.

Awesome work  6bblgt for finding prior history on it. Got to love when it travels halfway across the world and ends up over here In Australia then finding prior history on it.

TPR for sure man! i would sure love to have it next to my 68, IT is sexy!  :2thumbs:

So i can assume that perhaps the buyer from Arizona shipped it over here at somepoint over the last few years, and its been here for a while? Maybe, maybe not.

jefferson

So, went and had a look at this in person today at the auction showroom. Its gorgeous, immaculate, super clean, sounds grouse too(had them start it up for a minute or two)
id honestly say i have a feeling it will get passed in and not sell if it doesnt go well over 100k. IMO. The full rot resto really shows, the car looks just as good as if it had just rolled out of the dealership back in 69.
I still take me 68 over it but would love to have it next to my 68 haha

SOLD: $105k
TPR

haha was watching it live too man.

Thought it might go for more honestly. 105K is still strong money though. But for the condition that bad boy was in, id easily have it gone for more.

105k is what, 70KUS? Still be considered a fair amount of coin for a charger if it were over in the states still

Ghoste

I'm sure the new owner will treasure it.  Strong money.

TPR

$105k sounds to me like a fair price based on your description Jefferson. I would pay that if I was in a position to.
American muscle does not seem to command as much money as Aussie muscle over here, because people have less of a connection to it.
People will pay big money for Aussie because they/ their father/ their grandfather used to own one and they want to recapture that nostalgia.

In the same auction, a '72 XA GT Falcon went for $153k.
Personally, Aussie muscle like this does not do much for me at all. The Falcon is nice, but it does not have the appeal of the Charger.
In the same way, the Valiant Charger has nothing on the Dodge Charger.

That's why when people advertise close to $100k for a 383 Charger, they never sell.
There is a huge divide between what Aussie Charger owners think their cars are worth compared to what other Aussies are willing to pay.

There is often a huge difference over here as well between what owners think they are worth versus what buyers will pay.

jefferson

Hey TPR, indeed looking at the 69 in person it was absolutely flawless, not a scratch, ding, dent, stain anywhere to be seen, looked like it had been completely built that day lol.
It was gorgeous. Yea i actually thought to myself, WTF that ford sold for 150k and the charger only 105, WTF, the charger kills it in almost every aspect! SMH, but hey thats my opinion. Chargers are just so damn sexy, sleek and tuff.
Guess everyone has there own opinion though!

In regards to pricing over here and what people are willing to pay and expectations, most over here in the market for a charger if they have done there research, know your going to be up for at least 70k now to own one, weather that is bought local or importing it(if you can find one in the US for cheap ) Altho on those terms its got me boggled how this, has been up for months and months and not sold https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1969-Dodge-Charger-383-Mopar-Auto-Big-Block/254140219813?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180816085401%26meid%3Dfe69b8f8235a492394ec60ccd02f5b33%26pid%3D100970%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D254140219813%26itm%3D254140219813%26pg%3D2481888&_trksid=p2481888.c100970.m5481&_trkparms=pageci%3A3de497c5-a897-11e9-852c-74dbd1800807%7Cparentrq%3A0021da2d16c0a9cb6bf7ee1cff6cf42f%7Ciid%3A1

it has gone from 70k down to now 60k and still nothing. Surely those in Australia that want a dodge charger KNOW you will not find a driver any cheaper than that even if it has smaller motor/less options etc etc.

60 grand TO ME for a second gen driver charger seems very very reasonable, yes its had a paint change and motor upgrade, but if your like me and just want a charger because you love them and dont care about some numbers not matching up it would not bother me. Why it isnt selling at 60k ive no idea. It has its flaws for sure. But its still a driver and not a project that will cost you well over 100k to get on the road so yea..

You are dead right about this one. I have been following this car and it's price drop and this is definitely an anomaly.
$60k is a fair deal, I wouldn't say cheap, but about right for this sort of car.
Perhaps those who have seen it in person have noticed more major issues that have not come up in the pics???
This is actually the kind of car I am looking for next. A 383 '69 that I can modify to handle well and then throw around a bit.

If this was a year ago before i bought my 68, id be up and all over that 69. 60 grand is not going to buy you another second gen anytime soon, or in the future i dont think. There going up every year by a fair amount.
Perhaps your right TPR, they must be some other issue with that 69 going on. If i was up in qld id go have a look in person. Would be sweet to go check out.

You hear of a fair few people down here wanting dodge chargers, saying oh yea i have the money just havent found one yet, blah blah, yet that 69 is priced reasonably and still hasnt sold.
I think majority are just shit talkers TBH. Same as when someone says oh no im not going to sell that charger shell, its going to be restored. 5 years later. Still sitting there.

I know where 2 white with red interior 69's are. Seen them both in person. Both are project cars but complete. I've been trying to buy them for 2 years now and offered good money but I guess not ready to part with. They said they will call me when ready. Here is an old pic of one of the 69's from I believe mid 70's.

Chris, what do you think of that blue 69 charger on aussie ebay for 60k.

60k over here in Aus for a dodge charger is actually very decent.

Challenger340

No telling what anything is worth in this market, imo, more so now than ever before.

Blue Charger looks to be a nice car ? albeit a 318 example now 383 and color changed it could be a tough sell over here at $42K USD equivalent ?
Don't ask me why,
but it seems to me that some people would still rather spend $15 to $20K on JUNK that still needs another $45-$55K imput to be as nice, rather than buying one DONE and all in at $40K ? :brickwall:

I had no idea that my Charger was so famous. The two Chargers are strikingly similar, but you guys already noticed that there are differences between the two. Mine is a R/T, but not a S/E. So no, I do not have wood trim on the dash. I also do not have a passenger side mirror like the one in Australia has. However, Chargers did come with red interior and they didn't have to be special ordered.
