Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Check your float levels....

I only flip the pedel from idle for a split second,(surge forward) New holley.

Try bumping your idle speed up 100 - 200 rpm's

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Did a vaccume test,adjusted mixture,raised idle to 750 in drive,timed it 35* @ 2800 rpm,(vac disconnected).Total 50*........CAR GOES LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL . :icon_smile_big: :o :drive:.
Thanks to all,Adam.

Holley does make a dash pot that slows the carb closing speed down at the end. Its like $50 bucks or something. The old cars had them alot from the factory for that resone to stop the stalling if you slam on the brakes. Some people, like me took them off cause I would rather have it stall and stop 5 feet sooner. You may want to get it, it allows you to turn the idle speed down a little , thats why they make it.

Would this be the reason I can't take the revs down? (rebuilt 727 & standard tc)
Thanks Adam.

yup
if the converter locks up at too low rpm or just puts too much load on the engine at idle speed it can be hard to get the car to idle properly & will stall when you let off quick
