Did you finish high school?   :nana:

Well, the ole girl is in good hands with Brian and Ray Reitz over at RF Customs.. There is a strong momentum forward with the car. They are making sure the moldings and gaps are all good, soon the car will be in primer.. Moving along nicely..

Looking good Troy!

Funny how the shop and I are a little different in anal detail... Theirs is panel gaps, lines and fit.. I'm with that too, but know these were production cars and back then, the gaps sometimes left a lot to be desired.. For me, make sure the seam between the rear lower valance and corners are NOT !!! filled in at all.  :icon_smile_big:

Sometimes you gotta tell them what you want or looking for ahead of time. like OEM Correct factory Resto with factory type 2 coats enamel with orange peel or over restored better then factory show car where they block sand 6 coats of clear & make car totally flat & straight unlike factory that is wavy. LEON.

We will be going single-stage in the engine compartment, the trunk, interior and wheel wells and base/clear coat on the exterior.. The paint is so damn expensive... Going with the dipping-primer paint from Dave P. for the underside (overspray technique like original)

Troy,
Before they paint make a checklist of all things that need to be looked at before paint.
Here are some items that I have seen to cause problems:
1) Are the tabs for the license plate lamp wires there?
2) Are all the tabs for the trunk/tail light wiring there?
3) Are all the holes cut out in the trunk floor?
4) If your going to install the trunk light tab is it there?
5) Are the holders for the bumper jack welded in?
6) Are the holes for the sill plate screws in good shape?
7) Are the rocker covers for the wiring there?
8) Was there any other metal modifications done like the 4 speed cut out?
I'm talking about rear speakers, door speakers, extra holes for wiring in the firewall?
9) Make sure all the nut type fasteners don't have bolts broke off in them or are in bad shape.
These are all items that would require welding and repaint after the fact.

Very good points John.. #2 we have spoken about, but I have forgotten to check and don't think they are on the car.. Man, there are a bunch of little things in a major project like this..

Troy,
Here are a couple of more items that I have thought of.
Make sure all the seam sealer is installed where you want it.
Make sure all your hardware that is going to be painted is there and the ones you want.
Now is the time to look for those fasteners and clips.
All these items will look great and match the paint on the body!

I usually do the same, single stage in those areas & base clear the exterior. Sounds like your doing a little of both, over restored to Oem factory correct. one thing I would stress is to make sure any extra holes that don't belong in the Engine compartment like extra drill holes in firewall & inner fenders to ad additions get welded up.  LEON.

P.S. What color did you saying you were spraying it?

Hey Leon...
Yeap, already did the hole inspection and things are moving forward. Now, the next hurdle is the rear valance tabs that hold the reverse and license plate wires... The car is R4 red with white "500" stripe and black interior. Going with the primer gray undercarriage paint with body-color overspray..

Nice one Troy!

I remember Julius and Galen researching the primer undercoat color for a Daytona about ten years back and we were surprised how dark it was, when new!
When you see it after 40-50 years of service it becomes almost light gray to dark white lol...
