The new avatar is of our CD when she was fairly new taken in Ohio around 1970. I wish she still looked that good.

There will be more.

Hi A383Wing,                     06 July 2019

Yes, this thread is a train wreck, but usually a fun one. It'll get better in time as things progress and we stop dealing with the Draft issue. I sure hope she has been trying to be funny and doesn't have a problem with meds. She is 62 and I'm sure she knows better and I'm sure she is a nice person.

By the way, the train wreck doesn't show up in your post.

Thanks for the post.

Hi 6bblgt,                           07 July 2019

Here it is, a bit on the large side. The photos were taken by the original owner when the car was fairly new. The photo where it's wearing mags and decals is how it looked when we got it in 72.

If you look closely at the photos with side views it's a bit obvious the paint on the front fenders doesn't match well with the paint on the rest of the body.

Hope this helps everyone. There will be more, This project has taken a lot of time. There is little room to work in the garage. I have been concerned about when we remove and replace the garage door. The cars have to be out of the garage. At this moment the RR and SB have six flat tires between them, four on the RR and two on the SB; their driver sides are against the garage walls with the Daytona backed in between them.

I recently bought 8 car skates. The only way I can move the RR and SB is to have them sitting on the skates. I was concerned about taking them out of the garage and letting them sit outside while I pulled the wheels and took them to Discount tire to have new weenies installed on the wheels. That's 8 tires and wheels. That would take me several trips and all the while the cars would be sitting outside and be vulnerable to the curious and malicious.

Last night I realized I have a set of tires on Ford rims which I hope will fit the cars and a spare set of Ford rims with no tires on them. If they will fit then all I have to do is buy 4 tires and have them mounted on the spare rims. If they fit the RR and SB I will not have to leave them unattended while the new garage door is installed. I've already had too much stuff take a walk when I wasn't looking. One of the nice things about Texas is you have a right to shoot anyone trying to steal your property. The day the cars are outside, I will be armed.

It will be so nice once the new garage door is installed.  It will make them much more accessible to work on.

Hi Chargervert,                       07 July 2019

You have that right. This has been an ordeal of my making; I should never have allowed these cars to languish like I have. I had other interests and viewed them as a possible retirement investment. I have been offered a lot of money for them in the past. If someone came along and made the right offer I'd probably take it. Essentially, I'm 79; how many "GoodYears" do I have remaining? Only the Good Lord knows the answer.

I've stopped doing the dangerous and outrageous stuff I engaged in previously. My M.S.P. has had a great influence on me so I have been able to accept the fact that I'm no longer 25 and "Bullet-Proof;" I need to take things at a slower and more cautious pace. As I have said previously, "Getting old isn't for sissies."

Today, I'll check the Ford tires and rims to see if they will fit the RR and SB. I sure hope they do as it will simplify the logistics of this project. One of the things most folks may not understand; I have to do all of this myself, help is as scarce as hen's teeth. Generally, the only time there's help around is when someone comes asking for it. I do have one neighbor that helps when I need it and a friend that lives quite far from here who helps when there are big tasks involved. I'm not complaining, most ordinary folks just get in the way; they mean well but just don't have a clue how to do this stuff. One other thing, we are relocating and this is going on along with all the car stuff.

Take care amigo, and thanks.

Hi HANDM,                        07 July 2019

Thanks Amigo; you cannot believe how happy I have been since I met my M.S.P. and have taken the necessary steps to rectify the accident that happened when I was in utero.

I sure hope you and I make it to Phoenix; it will be a great honor to visit with you and yours and sip a Kool-Aid together. You will always be welcome at our place. Take care Amigo, hope to see you there this summer.

You wouldn't believe the crap I get when I tell the door folks I need the door removed so I can get the cars safely out of the garage before they commence installing the new one. The last company I called was affiliated with Home De'Pot; they were told up front the cars could not be taken out of the garage until the door was removed. They said no problem. When the guy came out to look the site over, he insisted that the cars be removed from the garage before they commence work. I told him the door cannot be opened and he insisted the cars had to be removed first. Stalemate! I have one last place to try which is up the road a piece. Hopefully they will do it, otherwise it will be up to my friend and me to do the dismantling of the door. I don't know what it weighs, I'm guessing several hundred pounds. It's a single double wide wooden garage door that's over 40 years old, and warped.

Hi Folks,                            08 July 2019

Here's an update we've been working on for a couple of days:

the hub bore on some Ford wheels is smaller than Mopar - they will work better on the rear VS. the front 11" drums on the SB & RR

Hi 6bblgt,                            07 July 2019

I brought down one of the steel Ford rims from the attic, they are: 16 X 7, 4 1/2 x 5 Bolt, 4.5" offset. The set of 5 mags I have are basically the same except the hub bore is a good bit larger than the steel cop wheels so they shouldn't be an issue. I'll try one that I can get to fairly easily today. The way I see it going is the SB will get the mags and the RR will get the steel wheels. The RR will require more work than the SB and will require more paint repair than the SB, Secondly, the steel wheels were bought to replace the original cop wheels. I had the extra set powder coated, took the car to NTB and had the tires swapped over to the new ones. When they went to balance them 3 of the four wobbled. The guy that powder coated the rims, burned off the original paint instead of media blasting them. By the time I had paid for the wheels and powder coating, I had about a grand invested. I should have taken them back and fitted him with them as his replacement cowboy hat. They should be OK for my purposes of rolling the cars around.

I will have to buy an aftermarket set of lug nuts for the mags. The current nuts are all right hand; need 10 LH and 10 RH and they need to be for mag wheels with a longer shank. The mags are  16 X 7, 4 1/2 Bolt, 4.5" offset. The offset is the same as the Chrysler wheels I have though they are 7" wide vs. 6" wide for the Chrysler rims and obviously 16" vs. 15". Don't think any of that will be a problem.

I started this post earlier yesterday. In the interim, I took one of the Ford rims and one Ford mag with a tire mounted on it out to the garage and tried them on the Daytona. None of them will fit on the Chrysler products. It looks like my great plan is a bust.

What I am going to do is jack the RR and SB up and put the skates under them. Once I have the RR on skates, I'll temporarily put skates under the CD. I will then move the CD as close as I can get it to the SB. This should enable me to remove the passenger side tires of the RR. off to DT and have two new weenies installed. Move the RR close to the CD and remove the tires on the driver side. Repeat the process with DT and reinstall the new weenies on the RR. Move it back to the wall. Move the Daytona back to its original position, remove the skates and put them under the SB; repeat the process for the SB, then move it back to the wall leaving the skates under the RR and SB.

Next will be to have the garage door removed, the cars moved out of the garage, the place cleaned up and the new door installed. This isn't going to be a one day affair until all three cars are wearing new sneakers.

If I could find a good reamer that was the size of the Chrysler hubs, I could probably use the Ford steelies. Think I'll stick to plan B. Don't know why my plan 'As" seldom work.

This ordeal will probably take 4 to 5 days of work to get to the place where the cars can be pushed deeper into the garage in preparation for dismantling that old door. Once it's gone then it should be a breeze getting the cars out where the garage can be cleaned up and the new door installed.

I hope we don't attract too much attention; we have vultures patrolling the neighborhood on a regular basis. I caught one trying to take my brand new two wheel dolly. When I'm out there with the cars I will have a gun and it will be quite visible.

I will take as many photos as possible so you all can see what's here. I just reminded myself I need to put a trailer hitch on the Ford. I have no way to move the trailer sitting in the driveway blocking the garage door. Guess I better do that tomorrow.

On the 17th of January this year a tree jumped out in front of my "cheby Blazer" while I was sleep driving. It was the only vehicle I had with a hitch. That old "cheby" is now where it should have been the day it rolled off the Assembly line; in a junk yard.

Plodding away; we will get there.

I would call a party rental place and rent the largest tent the have or even two, have them set em up right in front of the garage and stash the cars inside away from prying eyes......

There's gotta be a way to secure the garage door section, track or wheel to make it safe enough to get all the way up for removal of the cars and any good garage door outfit should be able to do it......

If you do have to do it yourself, be sure to visit youtube university and study up on how to release the torsion spring without dying. Assuming thats whats there

Just yesterday we removed an ancient rotten 20 foot 4 section door by lifting it, putting a 2x4 under the center, cutting the cables then knocking the 2x out from a distance and letting the door slam down then chopping it out with a sawzall. Pretty fun job actually ;)

Granted there wasn't a million bucks worth of hemi inside

Hi HANDM,                         10 July 2019

I was hoping you'd drop by with some suggestions. My biggest fear is the torsion spring; maybe it's the stories I've heard or maybe just the sight and thought of that darn thing getting out of control and battering me to pieces. I have enough problems without adding additional serious injuries to the repertoire that currently exists.

It's late and I have an appointment with a spine specialist tomorrow in Dallas. The nerves in my legs and feet have been going south for 14 years. Recently had an MRI; read the report. From what I read I think I'll be moving in with the old "cheby" Blazer sooner than later.

Hope You don't mind me PMing you when I return from the Doctor visit (2nd doc apt this week with 2 different doctors and more coming up).

Thanks Amigo.

Hi 62 Max,                         10 July 2019

Hmm, more sleep? This has been a bad habit of mine since I was a kid, I never wanted to go to bed.

Seriously, I have a sleep problem due to Sleep apnea and Hypopnea. My apnea is severe which caused my blood oxygen level to drop to 80%; kind of on the dangerous side.

I now sleep with a CPAP machine that allows me to get a good night's rest and keeps me breathing regularly, which I wasn't doing and hadn't been doing for the past 50 years.

Long story, short my M.S.P. noticed my problem, made videos of me falling asleep at inappropriate times and then insisted I have a sleep study. She was on me big time and it took me forever to get it done. The fault for the time lag between requesting the study and actually getting it lies solely with me.  In the interim, I had the accident this past 17 January.

Fortunately, the only harm done was a slightly bruised tree, a heavily damaged "cheby Blazer" and my fragile ego. We had a big time discussion that evening when I returned from that ill fated trip, which She had repeatedly warned me not to take. I didn't listen to Her advice.

During that discussion I asked her to take control of all major decision making for me. It's working out fine. The only decisions I make are the mundane, like what shade of pink panties should I wear.

Thanks Max for the post, we do appreciate it and we know it is Heartfelt.

YES, and I wish you were close by because I'd hire you to do the job.

Thanks for the video link. I just may do the spring myself. I'm sure my springs are wound tighter than the ones in the video due to the weight of our door. On second thought, I'll stop by the Overhead Door shop down the road. I'm also going to take your advice and call about the tent; think we will only need it one day.

So far this week it has been Doctors, doctors and more doctors. I'm beginning to see more doc's in a week than I used to see in ten years. Guess I'm no longer 25; but, I'm planning on 25 more good ones.

I kind of view life as though it's a game with 4 quarters, similar to football and basketball. I've completed three and am playing the 4th. My goal is to finish the fourth and get in a decent amount of Overtime.

Thanks Amigo for the advice, suggestions and offer to help.

Hi DonC1,                  13 July 2019

We have toyed with the idea of doing it ourselves. HANDM sent us "do-it-yourself" video links. We think we can do it. The only gotcha is the amount of torsion on those two springs. The doors in the videos were light weight compared to our old wooden one, which means they have less torque and lighter springs.

We're going to try the door shop down the road. Didn't make it this week, too many other things on the to-do list. This old age crap gets in the way more than we like, but, it's better than the alternative; being on the wrong side of the lawn can wait.

The biggest issue is getting the cars, RR and SB, on tires and skates so they can be moved fore-n-aft and sideways. The Daytona has new weenies on all fours. It moves easily. We need some sideways movement so we can get the RR and SB far enough away from the walls to where we can replace the tires and wheels on their driver's sides.

We will get there, just not "zackly" sure when. One thing for certain, we are not going to take any chances of having the cars damaged because we forgot to do some thing to protect them.

Thanks for the post.

Just to reinforce my suggestion in reply #222 in this thread.
I was at Chrysler's at Carlisle this past weekend. The wing car section was unusually empty since all the Daytona's were in Building T for the 50 year anniversary.
As you can see from the pic in the back there are six or seven pristine Superbirds. Saturday morning Crazy Jack rolls in with his well used Bird (black duct tape to help hold the hood down).

Good Morning Folks,                                     24 July 2019

We happened to remember something that we've had for 50 years: A New Old Stock (NOS) set of Holley Carbs still in their original boxes and inside the original plastic bags they came in.

These carbs were built by Holley when Holley was part of Colt Industries. They were built for big block engines using the Weiand Independent Runner (IR) Manifolds. They have been in the closet for all these years; kinda familiar with the closet thing, probably why I'm still here.

I ordered them around August 1969 before I knew I'd be heading to Japan for an undetermined amount of time. They arrived after I left for old horizons. Good thing they did; I had concocted a stupid plan to run through a radar speed trap at 200 mph. Don't think things would have turned out well.

The model number on the boxes is:  R-6214-AAA     1150 CFM.

Each box contains everything that came with them. The boxes are not pristine, though it's obvious they have been treated with care. They weigh approximately 13 pounds each. They are big.

If anyone is interested in these carbs PM us.

We do have Photos of them which we'll post later today.

Hi Folks,                      24 July 2019

Attached are two photos of the boxes and the carbs. If anyone is interested PM us.

Apparently the photos are too large. I'll have my M.S.P. resize them and will post them later today. Have too many things to do at the moment. Most businesses don't keep our hours.
