am having idle issues and a stumble problem here and there with the 440 i have in my 72 charger... the cam is a .488 lift hydraulic.... pulled the valve covers today to look under there and nothing broke or bent but.... 8 out of the 16 rocker arms look to have excessive clearances.... and they are all the corresponding ones... i think it is the right hand offset ones.... whichever one operates the number 1 cylinder exhaust valve.... all those valves with the same offset have about a 1/8 to 3/16 play in them.... while the others are virtually snug on the shaft.... so obvious;y i will have to get new rockers and while i am at it might as well get new shafts too.... but would this cause a funky idle and a inconsistent stumble??? also its a mild mod engine with only 9.5 compr3ession so should i stick with the MP rockers or switch to another type..... going to mopar nats at englishtown next weekend and want to make a shopping list....

Thanks in advance

Bill

WOW!!!  That's some excessive lash there!!!  1/8 inch to 3/16 of an inch???  Ya might want to look into arms, pushrods, and rocker shafts!!!  I'm running a 484 lift  and I have no trouble, but there are new top end components too!!!   If your valves aren't completely opening...it will cause some minor stumbling.

I assume the rocker is actually loose , the factory stamped hole is oversize & does fit large on the shaft, if the actual rocker has no play now this is normal
