15 grand is a lot of money for a 15 hundred dollar car.

THANKS for posting this tan top  :2thumbs:    This is GREAT....

and for 15K that Car looks way better as a starting point than many I've seen :shruggy:

I'm pretty sure the days of a 1500.00 68 Charger is over. It's not the 90's anymore

Sublime/Sixpack

Wow, the starting bid amount is $15K.

I've always liked the idea of a slant six to go with my V8....I would not mind betting that there would not be another one in the UK....as no one wants to import a non V8 Charger. Too much money for that one though IMO.

Lots of space under the bonnet for a turbo or two.

This is the perfect car to restomod, your not going to hurt the value of this car by using that slant 6 as a moring for your boat, and putting a modern Hemi driveline in it!

The novelty of the slant 6 though - believe they only made 500 - would cause me to pause restomodding it.  Though the cost/effort of restoring a car which results in a 6 cylinder would make one pause as well.

chargervert

I had a 71 Barracuda vert that was a slant 6 car, one of 163 made, but the novelty wore off very quickly, and a 71 383 Magnum soon replaced the slant 6 and it's extremely lackluster performance.

FJMG

Pretty different for sure. So base engine, base brakes, non remote mirror but WHOA... shoulder belts!!! Yup gonna say yes to that option for sure!

JR

I always thought if I had a slant 6 car I'd yank the 6 and swap in an RB25 or 2JZ.

Keep it a six, but actually have a fun straight six.

I've owned and daily drove a slant 6 3 on the tree charger, the novelty wears off really quick when having to drive that turd...from the outside people saw badass charger but really it was a gutless embarrassment when driven. Rare doesn't mean desirable either....

If it was a mostly unrestored survivor then I might vote to keep the slant.

But once you are tearing the whole car apart & rebuilding everything . . . I couldn't blame the owner for putting a V8 into it.

I agree with chris,
when i first agreed that it was time to purchase a second gen charger, the fella whom imported it for me asked what size engine was i after aswell as did i mind the colour etc etc.
I just wanted a charger so bad i said i didnt matter if it had a small or big engine haha, now i look back and am so glad i was able to bring in a big block 440 RT charger, i reckon if it had a 318 or 383 id have the bug in me to rip it out and replace it with a 440 or bigger.

As rare as a slant 6 charger is, personally for me wouldnt last long. These cars just look MUSCLE and scream MUSCLE and having a 6cyl imo ruins that.
One good benefit tho, you wont have to fill up after every drive though hahahhaha. The 440 in mine sucks the juice up. haha good times tho. LOVE IT!

chargervert

If you are worried about fuel economy, a modern Hemi driveline would get as good or better milage than a slant 6 on its best day. My wife's 09 Challenger R / T classic got 28 mpg on a recent trip.

Not worried at all mate! Its all a part of owning a classic big block 440 dodge charger lol
Most common question that i get, damn that beauty must love the servo stations lol

I 'm just stating the obvious. I sold 4 of them last year, and there's two more going soon. I also sold three b body Plymouths too . I have realized that I can't build them all.

No you don't.

One of my jobs in the late 70's was driving a slant 6 equipped Dodge van with 3 on the tree & what a sloppy shifting dog that thing was. I like my Chargers to be all original, but I would have no problem yanking the slant 6 & 3-speed and throwing them in the trash.

wish it was a 3 on the tree!!

I have a base model 1970 Charger /6 with that transmission combo.  It can be hard to see what actual gear it is in sometimes...

There's nothing wrong with a 383, especially the 330 HP versions.

the slant six option added no value in the sale I see...that's about what any charger in that condition sells for...just proves what I've been saying about slant 6 chargers all along. Just because it's rare, doesn't mean it's valuable or desirable. Most of all...definitely not fun to drive, at all, remotely close compared to big block cars. Too much weight for a small motor, plus the sound of it does not go with the looks of a charger. Just like a viper engine in one...sounds lame

alfaitalia

I tend to agree....but if everyone keeps dropping V8s in then the ones left might still not be  "valuable or desirable"....but they might become very collectable...which in turn will see a steady increase in value.

I agree...I recall seeing V10 Viper engines in some cars in magazines, praise showered over the car and the build....But to me they sounded terrible, sort of like an airplane engine or some bullshit like that. ALL that work to fit the morphadite engine in there only to sound worse than three weed wackers at WOT.

Mytur Binsdirti

A Viper engine sounds like a UPS truck.

Lol, I have a V10 in a Viper where it belongs. At low RPM's it's definitely not music to the ears, but at least on the new ones with the variable cam, at full whack it sounds violently magnificent. With a naturally aspirated 645hp scooting 3200 pounds from corner to corner for 30 minutes at a time on a road course without a hint of overheating, I'll keep that over the heat soaking, nice sounding supercharged modern V8's all day.
