Anybody here bought reproduction positive battery cables for their Charger?

   Hello,

       Looking to buy a new positive battery cable assembly for my 68 Dodge Coronet with 318.
   If anyone has bought reproduction positive battery cables for their Charger please chime in. 
   Would love to see pics of the battery cable terminal.  Thanks.

I got one through rock auto last year. The connection at the lead battery terminal was not crimped tight enough and the darn thing melted the insulation when starting. Just be aware of that.

Last time I needed one for my car, it was still available from the dealership at a good price.  I would check!

Stay away from the ones from Pimp Boys, even for a temporary fix.  The positives ALWAYS crack, for no reason.  One day you will look down and they will simply be cracked, and they will be loose on the battery.  Does not matter how tight you bolt them or not.

Still, some of the prices I have seen for "blessed" battery cables are astronomical.

No one made anything close for my 73, I had to have one custom made from a a fellow who apparently no longer does them.
I had the old one, took pictures with measurements and he did a beautiful job.
I think it was $75 but that was 10 years ago. I have sent a couple folks to him since, and there's been no response.
But I feel the same way about my 67, it's over$100. Not doing it.
Any one got a line on a lesser one for 67 383 Charger, lmk.

Just an FYI,
Ive heard of several instances where the Goodmark cable over heats ( caused by a to small gauge wire )

You haven't tried buying the battery cables from M&H. Call them and ask about the battery cables. They will not sell the harnesses, Yearone bought the licensing rights from Chrysler for those.

This was what I used (You'll want one for a 318 not big block) it had the loose battery connector wire that gave intermittent no crank conditions until I wacked it down with a block of wood and my hammer.

Mega Parts offers the best IMO. I bought one thru YO when they were having their 30% off sale. THe crimp fitting on the battery end is junk.

How long have you had yours and do you connect/disconnect the battery often? I picked up one of the less expensive versions and the lead crimp battery terminal end was junk. It's been on maybe 3 yrs and died not long after. IIRC it was $45. 

I'm betting none of these are designed to have a lifetimes of more than a few cycles on/off the battery terminal. I'm typically pulling mine a few times a year with storage/maintenance. $135 for a battery cable is tough to buy into.  Maybe I'd be better off with those battery quick disconnect setups in the long run. Then I'm not actually disconnecting the lead end.

You're saying that the lead end on the Mega Parts one is crap as well, or did you buy a different one from YO?

FWIW - Years ago I had issues with the positive battery ends cracking on the repo battery cables after a couple disconnects. Since then, I just disconnect the negative battery side and have had zero issues. The negative side seems to be made differently and seems to hold up better to frequent disconnects / connects - plus its a whole lot less expensive to replace.

One of the first things they taught us in MVR was to disconnect the neg terminal first. No sparks. No explosions.
I guess you guys down south leave the battery in the cars during storage? Must use those battery tender things eh?

I suspect that they have you do that because the risk of shorting the positive terminal to the body (gnd) with the wrench during removal is mitigated. Removing the positive vs the negative first is no different with regard to sparks and or explosions if you consider only the behavior mentioned (removing the cable).

For what it's worth its a worthwhile argument and probably one I should follow more often as a good friend almost lost his finger when his wedding ring fused between the wrench and the valve cover. The current turned the ring red hot and almost burned through his finger.
