How do I know which brake pedal switch to use?

I've seen two versions of the brake light switch on the pedal.  Are they interchangeable?   If not, short of removing mine, how can I tell which one I have?

For '70 cars I have seen three so far.

Manual transmission pedals.

Automatic transmission pedals.

Automatic transmission pedals with the Speed Control option.

So you may want to mention what you have & posting a photo of your switch would help too.

I have a '69 Charger Automatic Column Shift with a 318.   Power brakes.

Let me see if I can get a picture.

there are only 2 switches used, standard duty and Heavy duty,,, HD is the same switch used for cruise control equipped cars. Each switch requires its own unique mounting bracket.
otherwise they are completely interchangeable ( provided you have the required bracket for said switch .)

Standard duty

          Actually ,both switches can be used on the same mounting bracket and both can be used on non cruise control equipped cars.
     I've used both on my 68 Coronet.  The heavy duty one with the threads comes with two nuts. So, when mounting; one nut goes on the back side of the bracket and the other one goes on the
      front side of the bracket.    The heavy duty switch allows for adjustment too.  I have the HD switch on my 68 Coronet that has no cruise control.

Nope.

The speed control switch has two blue wires that go from the back of the switch to a black plastic plug.

The HD switch shown above is an after market piece & the threaded portion is quite a bit longer than originals.

First up is a 1970 brake light switch with manual transmission pedals;

1970 brake light switches for cars with automatic transmission pedals, the one with the two blue leads & black plug is for N88 - Speed Control equipped cars;

Here is mine.

Do I literally just remove it like a bolt?

Sorry for the poor quality.   I had heck taking it without any ambient light.

The manual pedal type can be removed bracket & all by removing the bolt holding the bracket.

To remove the switch from the bracket though, you need to compress the locking spring retainer.

What should I replace mine with?  Is there any drawback to the threaded type?

On my '55 Plymouth, I put a tee in the line and used a simple pressure switch. Not really a great option for you as I'm sure you don't want to cut and flare lines and extend wires. Just showing there are other ways to do it.

Skull-1

Wow.   Yeah I am gonna keep it as simple as possible.

So my switch appears to be attached to a bracket that's bolted in place from the inboard side (by the trans hump).  I can't seem to get to that bolt.   Any suggestions?

I've decided the only way I can even possibly get to the brake switch bracket is via the dash.   I pulled my cluster and will try getting to it from above.     :brickwall:
