Hi,
I see a lot of posts where folk have different tire/wheel combos, and most need modification....I want to fatten up the stance of my charger, but don't want to undertake any body/suspension mods.....so rather than ask individuals about their set ups and then find out that I can't go down that route - eg. Norway Charger and the guys in the "Fatties or Skinnies on Chargers" thread, I thought I'd ask....

What is the biggest size tire and wheel combo you can fit under a charger without any mods?
Tire size, wheel offset, backspacing and overall wheel size would be really helpful....as would any pics... ;)

I just had this discussion at the tire shop the other day - I am looking at getting 15X10 Crager Mags on the back with 15X7's on the front - now with the 15X10's - from there you can decide how much rubber you want on it. I think we decided 265's would be enough rubber to make it look mean without bulging from the sides and touoching the wheel well.

Either way - with 15X10's on the back you'll have a wider tire and keep the same profile/stance.

I may be super wrong on this. so if anyone has any better info I would like to hear about it as well.

If/When I ever get a Dodge Charger, this guy over here in England is the combination I would want, in my opinion he has the best combination

It does look awesome, JMF....but I think it would need some fairly substantial mods to do it....

Obviously not a butcher job!!
But if you check out the "Fatty or Skinny" thread, there is a description of cutting and rolling an inch off the front fender area...
Often with really big meaty tyres you have to move the springs inboard, flatten the inside of the wheel well humps etc....
I wouldn't mind doing it if I was about to repaint....but as things stand I'm after a less invasive way of beefing up my stance..

mine. with no mods, rubs a bit on corners with the hoosiers but a bf goodrich in the same size (295/50/15) is slightly smaller and fits no problem, wheels are 81/2 by 15 with 4" backspace, 41/2" or 5" backspace would eliminate the tyre rubbing theres loads of space on the inside

Watcha got on the front, Jon?....I guess I've got nothing to worry about, as I don't think I want to go as wide as your hoosiers! (My 318 with 2.79 gears isn't going to blow anyone away on the strip ;D)

Yeah Jon the ones on the back of yours look just right, I like the combination his got in The Fast And The Furious as well, the only good thing about that film

Oh..I don't know..I'm not one to fly in the face of public opinion, but I enjoy watching that film everytime.....especially every frame with the Charger in it...come on! It portrays the Charger as the absolute last word in raw power, speed and coolness, you've got hundreds of cars in that flick and the Charger is No 1...not just my opinion  but the way the story is presented...

Having said that...maybe I'm biased, I don't have the pathological loathing of the Japanese car industry that a lot of you (particularly in the Detroit area) must have......
Also....I DO have a hopped up Mitsubishi FTO with full Veilside body kit and Ricer performance parts under the hood sat on my drive....

Yeah I like the film too, only because of the Dodge Charger, it's almost a remake of Point Break the way the story goes

15x10 Crager S/S w/5" b.s. will fit the back with no problems. I ran these on my 70 R/T S.E. with 275/60-15 & 15x7's  Cragars up front. Fill the wheel wells nicely. Sorry no pictures that I can post.

I have a 70 Charger, stock wheel wells

Two sets of rims/tires

Street...

10" rim with 4.5" backspacing, tires 295/50R15 (With this combo the rear tires rubbed with the stock springs if there were people in the backseat, no problem though with the higher SS springs)
8" rim with 4" backspacing, tires 225/65R15

Race...

10" rear rims with 5" backspacing, tires are Racemaster DOT drag radials 325/50R15.. Perfect fitment.. (Note with SS springs)
Fronts are "runners" 4" rim with 175/70R15 tires

What size tire did you have on the 15X10's in the back - I was thinking 265's would fill out very nice and not rub.
Up front I am going with the 15X7's

So you got the "68 CHRGER" Plates. I wanted those. I had to settle for "CHRGER 68". :icon_smile_evil: :icon_smile_blackeye:

"rechargd" is still available, so is "redscare"  I wanted to get my wife the "kevsbich" (my name is kevin)  but I don't think the censors at DMV would let that one slip past the goalie.  and I would not be able to see it through two black eyes once the wife saw it too....

My 68 has...

  295-50-15's 0n back. 235-60-15's in front. Had to put air shocks on the back, otherwise if I had passengers the tires would rub in back. The front tires rubbed a little on the way home from the tire shop so I pulled them off and heated the brace inside the fenders with a torch and hit it ounce with a 4 lbs. mallet. I think I can get 245-60-15's up front now.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

This stance looked pretty good! Is it 16x8 or 16x7 up front? And what is your backspacing? Did you do any mods with the front fender stiffener?

Holy 5 year old thread resurrection batman! lol...  they WERE 16x8 all around and no mods to the fender stiffener.  In the meantime, I totalled that car, rebuilt it, and got new wheels lol.

Thanks, so no need for mods on 255s in the front, that sounds good for me. Well, some can totally rebuild a car, while others get less done, like for instance not gotten new wheels yet!! hehe. Sweet looking car you have now, by the way.

I asssume you had 4,5 inch backspacing on those front rims also. Am I correct?
I am asking because I am not sure whether to get 15x7s or 15x8s up front for my 2nd gen with no modifications. And also what backspacing would be best on the 8 inch rims?

I have 18 x 9 4.5 bs 275/40/18 in front and 18 x 10 5 bs 295/45/18 in back.  No rubbing but front bs may be different w/ wilwood hubs.

Do you believe that your wilwood hubs gives you more room than the regular heavy duty brake drums up front. It shouldn't really affect the space in the wheelwell though?...
