68 Fuel Flip Top Lid Disassembly ?

How does this thing come apart. Both the lid and the release button appear to be roll pins of some sort but there is only one hole, so you can't knock it through. Drilling it out looks to be the only option but sounds risky. I need it apart to have it plated. Any ideas? Thanks.

I know this is an old topic...but did you ever get it apart?

The spring that hold my lock down small flip button (I know poor description) is broken and just flaps.  Does anyone know how it removes and also where to get the correct spring?

Sometimes the springs we need are not available.  If you get ambitious, you can wind your own.  This video is a guide.  Adjust the wire size and diameter of the round rod to suit your needs.

There is a useful tutorial that I hope I can remember when I need it.  Wind your own springs, why not.
