Question about Daytona wing and stripe colors

Good afternoon Folks,

My question is about the color of the paint for the wing verses the color of the stripe. As some of you know my car is black and I'm going with a red wing and stripe.

I received my stripe from performance car graphics in Florida, witch is called tomato red.
My wing is painted R-4 with a gray sealer under it. When you compare them side by side their is a shuttle difference in the colors. The R-4 is a bite darker      and the stripe looks to have a bit of orange.  :shruggy:  I know the lighting and base pigments play a big part in this as well.

I'm under the impression that if you have a:
White stripe, paint the wing W-1
Black stripe, paint the wing X-9
Red stripe, paint the wing R-4

Am I correct to assume that red would be the harder of the three to match, with the base paints being different now than from what they once were
Do you color match the paint to the stripe or did the original cars have a shuttle difference in color (in red).

Just trying to make it correct.

Any thoughts and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Good morning Folks,

Here are some pictures of the wing and a sample of the stripe together.
It's so close I'm thinking about running with it.
This red is really messing with my eyes.... With the angles and lighting.

That looks the same to my untrained eye.

It's a bit late to do this, but my body guy took the stripe to the paint supply and had them color match it.  15 years later it still looks spot on (again, to my untrained eye, but I've stared at it A LOT!)

One thing would make diference would be red colour over black not primer . We always spray red over white to livern it up .Plus most vinyl isn't opaque just a thought . And i doubt if they were as good as yours when new

Have you seen my post.  I just went through the same thing last week, I need to repaint the wing, it's a little darker than the stripe, Sean my body guy color painted the wing first. I had to just ordered another stripe and match the color, maybe performance graphics has the wrong color, you are right it looks more orange than Red.  If things were different I would say put the stripe on before painting the wing.

Common theme. I made my paint guy do my rear bezels W1 and they looked beige compared to my white Bee stripe, so he repainted the bezels "house white".. and it's spot on.

Good morning folks,

Thanks for the comments and insights.  :2thumbs:

I'm going to wait for spring and set it outside in the natural light and go from there.

Another option might be to take the wing (or upright) to a sign shop that does vinyl, have them match the wing color, then send the material to Dave.  That's what I did to match the strip to the wing after I had a couple "old guys" scribble on the upright.   :icon_smile_big:
