Why were there different patterns of trunk mats? Plant, production date?

Does anyone know why cars got a particular pattern for the trunk mat? Was it plant, date of production, or luck of the draw?

My Charger had a tan plaid mat, but I've seen other patterns too.

Is anybody making trunk mats other than REM?

I just read this somewhere else......

It could be as simple as multiple vendors.

Look on the back for a 5 digit number, post a photo if it is still present.

Year of car & part number on the back if still legible will also help.

The car in question is a '69 Charger. I'll have to see if I have enough of the mat left with a part number. But, the question is really around Chargers in general. Why so many patterns?

Again, multiple vendors are possible.

As long as any vendor could supply the part per Chrysler specs, details like the overall pattern would be a small detail if it fit & worked as it should.

As one example.

I have seen 3 different vendor numbers (so far) on 2998 974 radiators used in 1970 B-Bodies with a 318 with AC & AAR Cudas & Challenger T/As too.

Even within those three vendors there are variations in their own products.

and thats what makes reproducing parts so much fun!

So, the 69 Charger RT that I bought from the original owners actually had a black carpet mat in the trunk that is fitted? Not a plaid mat that I have seen many pics of, makes me go "Hmm?"

I would need more evidence before calling the carpeted one factory.

This weekend i will check it for any tags or numbers. It's black like the interior carpet with some sewn in vinyl dividers. Could very well be an aftermarket piece? But looks old as hell ....:smilielol:
