74 340?????

There is a guy here in my home town selling a 74 dart swinger.  according to the description page taped in the window of the car, it is a orginal 340/904 package.  I didn't think that the 340 was still in production in 74 and i didn't think that Dodge would bolt it to a 904.  is this at all possible or is the guy just trying to sell the car. All of the fender emblems are missing that would have the engine info and the car has been repainted(rattle can) hemi orange so there is no way for me verify his story.   He wants 2000 obo for it.

With no fender tags, and what could be a fake window sticker, I'd walk away from it. Never heard of a 340 in any 74. What's the VIN say?

73 was the last year for the 340, and a 904 never backed a 340.

thats what i thought, i bet if anything its a 318, but i wasn't really into it from the begining, i think the guy is trying to scam someone and that could be why the car as been sitting along US 31 for about 3 months in front of a gas station.

Not #s car but may be a 340 Check the block, a 340 will bolt up to a 904 ma mopar never sent them out that way.

On a 74 brochure the only motors for the 74 Dart Swinger were the 318 and 225 six. The dart sports had 360's in them. Craig

I used to have a '73 Dart Sport with a 340/727.  Fun car.  If only I knew then what I know now...

It ended up being a running 318 car, i talked to the guy who inhereted the car from his uncler a couple of months ago and he really doesn't know anything when it comes to cars, i talked him down to 1500 and i've got the keys to go and look closer at it and i'll post pics here soon..  THe interior is immaculate in this thing.  Someone put a lot of time into the car especially in the interior and engine.  THe motor numbers and trans numbers match the the car.  Heres the vin.

Regardless of the motor...$1500 is not a lot of $ for a lot of car if there has been work done on  both the interior and the engine. What is the body like?

Body would need some work, but nothing needs replaced in terms of the body panels, just some sanding and painting. the vinyl top might need replaced but other than that.
