QuoteGeneral motors?Huh??

All the old RWD muscle cars in the F&F movies (at least the stunt cars) are using the same catalog drivetrain.  Chevy LS motor + TH400 tranny + Ford 9" axle + Wilwood/Baer brakes.  It's been this way since the 3rd movie.

It's not about horsepower or the price of parts.  (Drivetrains are "little stuff" to a movie crew.)  It's about the time.  They are trying to keep dozens of cars working every single day and they shoot in many different countries.  They can't afford to wait around for a week to get parts shipped.  With a common drivetrain in all the stunt cars, they can swap stuff around and get new parts fast.

When I worked on one of the Fast & Furious 5 cars, the flat black Charger that pulled the Bank Vault it did not have a GM Motor, it had either a 5.7 litre Hemi or 6.4 litre Hemi if I remember right, Also had a Heavy Duty 10 ton Wench mounted in trunk bolted near top of roll bar, Not like the cheap junk ones bolted to trunk floor in the Auction cars. Doubt you could pull a small wooden log with those made of tin foil. The one I worked on had 2 big bottles of NOS bolted to floor where Passenger seat goes. Auction say's they sell Replicas & I think they may be replicas or clones.  LEON.

The catalog drivetrains have mostly been for the 1980s-earlier muscle cars.  They haven't been converting the modern cars.  Modern drivetrains are harder to change and easier to get parts for.

The car crew goes through so many cars and changes them around so much . . . what is 'screen used' or 'replica' gets pretty blurry.

I've seen a former maroon red Daytona Charger (FF#6) re-dressed as a black '70 Charger for publicity appearances.  They sold off one of the black '70 Chargers from FF#4 and then rented it back again to use in #5 after the owner had done some resto work.  Some of the gray 4WD 'Ice Chargers' in #8 had regular 2WD drivetrains underneath.  They have re-used the same RMS suspension parts on multiple different cars.  Etc.

The last picture is my favorite. That blower is mounted to a plate just about the engine - all for show.

I assume these are cars from the Fast and Furious "live" shows that toured Europe?

I wonder if those shows are still going?
