I dont have experience with excel, but basically I'm looking for something where I can type in a part number to see if I have it, how many I have, etc. Not just a spread sheet.

All the salvage dealers have one form or another of Hollander. But its a system and runs thousands! I'd suggest getting a used Hollander manual from a swap meet or e-gag and make some sort of speadsheet based on that. Of course this will only work for major components. They do not list Speedo needles, brake springs or knutson valves. But it would be a start.  ....unless I misunderstood your intentions.

Excel is a lot more than just a spreadsheet.  Correct, that is what you start with and then you can customize it to do whatever you wish.

Open up a new sheet and start with a list of 10 part numbers.

Create 3 columns - PART #, DESCRIPTION, STOCK

Then enter the 10 part numbers in the corresponding column, followed by the description and in the third column (STOCK) put a Y for yes if you have one and a N for no if you don't.

You can then sort the data to have it show your part #'s in numerical order or whether or not you have something in stock etc.

After you get comfortable with it, you can add more columns.  For example you have a used part in stock and would like to show the condition of it, use a rating system of 1 to 5.  You can also insert a link to digital photo of the part.

I had zero experience with it a few years back and I am no expert but it is amazing what you can keep track of with it.  I have a few sheets in one workbook that track all of the old part #'s that are still available from MOPAR with their new part numbers as well.  In some cases, I have updated pricing with them.  I also have a Year One sheet, listing all of the items I need and have purchased from YO, with part #'s as well as two sets of prices, the catalogue prices and the - 20% prices.  I know exactly how much I have spent, what exchange rate was used, when I spent it and how much I need to spend.  Of course my Wife will never see this workbook.

Spend some time with it, create a few samples and search for some tips online on how to get the most out of it.  It is a simple product that can be customized to be fantastic.  It won't take you long to like it.

Good luck.
