I have a 70 charger with a 440 and rpm heads..car is floor shifted auto and has power steering, no a/c..is the 440-178 the proper part for my car...thx

If you want 1 7/8 tubes, then yes. Those will fit.

XH29N0G

I would think 1 7/8 tubes would be a good size for that engine unless it is really modified.  I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I'm gonna hijack, would these be a good choice for a 595 horsepower street 440?

Based on the info given, we know nothing. If that is a rebuilt to "stock" bottom end with 8:1 slugs in it, then 1 7/8 are not the right choice. But we dont know anything other then its a 440 and has aluminum heads, dont even know which eddys are on it, so cant say.

Most likely yes.

It's a 9.5 to 10 to ne compression motor with stage one rpm heads (flow 282@600)240/250 @050 520/547 hydraulic cam rpm intake and 850 dbl.pump carb with MSD..

What piston part number, what head gasket thickness. What is a stage 1 rpm head? Ive never seen such a thing. There are either 84cc or 88cc rpm heads. Flow at .600 means nothing with a .520 cam. What do they flow at that lift?

metcoll

Speed pro 2355 pistons 84cc heads..original flow ootb was 262@600 and after porting 282

metcoll

Sorry meant just a stage one port job

c00nhunterjoe

2355 is a decent budget piston. Depending on the headgasket used and how much your block was decked, 9.5:1 is most likely correct. Having aluminum heads makes it "act" like an 8:1, then we need to actually calculate your dynamic compression but need the cam card to calculate that. But essentially i can estimate that engine will be a 6.5 or 7:1 DYNAMIC compression package based on what we know about the cam. That said, the 1 7/8 is the largest i would run, 1 3/4 would not hurt it as the cam will not run high enough to benefit from the larger tubes. Imo anyway.

IMO, this engine will be well into the downside of it's power curve past 5,500 rpm, 1 7/8" headers are plenty.
Only wimps wear Bowties !

actually on chassis dyno was still pulling at 5700 rpm, but we shut it down

c00nhunterjoe

If it was still climbing, then why shut it down at a low rpm like that?

metcoll

Limited dyno time and really didn't think it would keep on pulling past that..dyno sheet has been posted in earlier threads
