How to remove extension housing from 727TF ?

Guys, I need to change the seal between the case and extension housing. Driveshaft is out, speedogear is out, crossmember removed, transmission rubber mount removed and 6 bolts are out.

Now I only can get the extension housing to turn but can not get it of to replace te seal. What's the trick to get it of?

There is a snap ring you have to remove. Take the two phillips screws out, remove the plate. The snap ring is inside.

Are these the ones located underneed the rubbermount Will?

Yes, the snap ring needs to be expanded. Do yourself a favor and shift to Park, then turn the driveshaft until you hear/feel it lock. This makes the housing easier to remove from the Park rod.

Hmmmm.   I bet that tool works easier than the two screw drivers I use for the install.

If you're doing this to change the tail housing gasket, be sure that's the leak source (it rarely is)...might be from somewhere else.

I changed the tail housing gasket, and it turned out that there was another leak on the reverse band lever shaft (worn o-rings)

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll dubble check when extension housing is of. Anyway, I had the car on jackstands in drive and looked under the car and oil leaked between case and extension housing. Thanks again
