Radiator support "black out" on B5??

Did the factory black out the core support on a 1969 Coronet B5 car?? I didn't think they did with the darker colours cars and I only remember mine this way, but I can't guarantee it's not Blue from the paint job in '78.

Shot is from before tear down, black is spray bomb that I did at some point in time. Can't remember if I did the grill support brace as well.

See the blackout on your center latch support & lower radiator support?

At the factory, that was applied at the same time as the blackout on the radiator support top & sides too.

Thanks!  Taking all the information and then getting the pasta strainer out to filter and decide what to do!  Have a survivor B7 Roadrunner owner that says his is not blacked out. Have a guy with a black car that was blacked out! Red blacked out. Now to find someone with a B5 Bee that's unmolested...

B5 was recommended for blackout.

B7, F8 & X9 were not, yet some still got it anyway.

Sand through the repaint & see what your own car tells you, do not go by what other's cars tell you.

Your car was there when it was built, the others were not.

Thanks! Not an option when my car was taken to bare metal everywhere, before epoxy prime, paint, etc.

Thanks Troy!!! Do you figure the paint is beaten off the very bottom of the lower rad support or it was never there??

I'm slowly working myself towards the inevitable that I have to mess up that shiny paint job..

The factory guys applied the blackout after body paint color.

'Messed up' is seeing a light body color through the grille.

I'd say never there. It wasn't a super consistent process. You can see approximately where it ended along the bottom edge of the radiator opening. It is my understanding that the paint was applied from underneath which is why you can see it inside the upper radiator opening and even some in the top edge of the upper support - but not on the support itself.

On my 70 Challenger built in LA the entire lower rad support is covered. That could be a plant, employee, or model difference. Maybe the Charger lower valance covers better?

There was always something there via the dip process.

The actual sprayed paint was up to individuals though, so there is not a 'This is the exact way' type of thing, it was done from car to car & no two would have ever been exactly the same in every little detail.

I've seen original paint Lower Valances blacked out on inside. some are & some aint. If Radiator core support got blacked out with front Valance on or off I don't know But I'm guessing with it on & could be the reason for the black out missing on very bottom of core support. I'll have to go through a pile of original pics on 35mm film to be sure & refresh my memory. LEON.

Here's the black out on original paint 64 or 65 Dodge or Plymouth, Can't remember exactly what it was, this was like 20 years ago. Notice factory black out went all the way to the bottom. LEON.

Here's a picture of my original black out on my 70. And my lower valance was also completely blacked out. I know my car is not blue but I thought I would throw it out there for reference. 23000 mile original. Too late know for better pictures. All primed up right now.
