Throttle sticking

I have a 66 with a 383 and 727, it hadnt been drove in years I had to replace the throttle cable due to the other being broke, my issue is that at idle you can rev it and the throttle won't stick but sometimes in drive you give it to much pedal and it goes wide open and won't unstick until you shut it off but when you start it back up it's not stuck I'm clueless on why it is doing it thanks.

It has the double return spring, it's dark now but I'll get a picture tommorow.

If the only way to unstick it is to shut it off, and your old one broke, im betting on a broken drivers side motor mount allowing the engine to rock over and pin the throttle wide open. Seen it happen many times on big block mopars and stock mounts.

Different carburetor on mine, but the choke used to stick at the fast idle (not WOT) but enough to be scary.  Good luck figuring this out.  I'll be the other suggestions may have nailed it, but put my experience in case it helped.

Again, if the only thing that makes it return to idle is physically shutting the engine off, check the driver motor mount.

Update: driver side motor mount was completely tore apart have a new one ordered thanks for the help

good you know whats causing it ,    never new ( well never seen one that bad my self ) a destroyed  motor mount would do that

Good to know you found a broken mount, but you still need the throttle adapter and stud installed in order for your transmission to function properly and your throttle cable.

Ive broke them bad enough that it smashed the 1st header tube against the inner fender and cut 3 plug wires off and still pinned the throttle wide open. Did the bolt together mount and broke one of them. Went solid on my car, but im hard on parts.

crikey !!  sounds like some serious power shifting ! , as I was reading your post was thinking to my self I would have tried a solid mount on drivers side  , then continued reading & you already made swap to solid mounts

For several years i only ran the solid on the driver side with no issues.

I always run a solid mount on the driver's side with no issues, have for years on multiple cars.

A typical kit comes with 2, so for me that does two cars.

Definitely fix the linkage too!

Our old truck did that not long ago... it too hadn't been drove it a while... it had gotten a piece of string on the throttle cable and it was hanging when the cable was trying to go back into the sleeve...
