    Well this might be the stupidest question ever but can a 440 use heads from another engine/ will other heads fit it ie. 426 etc. ?

You would have to modifiy the block to fit HEMI heads onto a 440.  Yes it can be done.  I think Hot Rod has an article in there archives about it.

Honest, either build a really good 440 or spend for the HEMI.

well i found some pretty decently cheap headers and i was just wondering. Also would they function better?

I think there was some issues with the swap.  You essentally on  a 440 block do not have the top mounting provision.  Also,  You have to grind the block for the push rods.  IIRC.  So.  I just do not think it is worth it.  The reason this came about is the past lack of HEMI blocks.  Well you have several alternatves I would not peronally bother,  Either go 440 or  a stroker.
