John, What do you say about this "The  number on the adapter cover must correspond to the number of teeth on the gear. This must be lined up at the 6 o clock position. In other words your teeth number must be at the bottom of the housing when installing"

Do I have to count the teeth ?  I just want it to stop leaking, I don't care about the correct speed it shows.

you don't have to count anything...all you have to do is read the number of the teeth that is stamped into the gear...then adjust the housing accordingly......maybe your aluminum gear housing is worn out inside?

Once a mech on my car clocked incorrectly the housing and, of course, the speedo wasn't reading anything, but didn't get a leak because that! Sure just run like that one day

:shruggy:

Overthinking this... unless is being clocked AGAINST the shaft into the tranny which could be pussing out the offset position, hence the gear housing being pushed out of center ? And in my case, the gear wasn't even touching the shaft inside ? Dunno if you got what I meant.

But if so... is the speedo gear able to get into the tranny if that happens? Being bigger than the offset setup range.

Hard to explain for me.
