Welll yanked my carpet uptoday and luckly it seems their is only the one hole I knew off. She seems fairly solid overall maybe a few surface rust spots coming u pthrough the paint but i hit the floor around it and it sounds solid. The only problem with the one hole is its where the seat piller mounts through the floor on the passenger side. Anytimes for fixing this? What gauge steel and what not. Never done this before so treat me as a complete newb to this sorta thing. I can weld though  :icon_smile_tongue:

How big is the area that is bubbled? Is it an actual hole, or is the paint just lifting? Scrape the area with a wire brush or one of thouse Strip & Clean disks made by 3M. If there is no hole in the floor after you get the area clean. Your in luck. All that will be needed is to get it to clean shinny metal and metal etch and prime and paint to match the rest of the floor. Or don't paint and install your carpet right over it.

If there is a hole it depends on how big it is. If its just a small one you don't need to patch it. But instead just weld it up. If its bigger then a nickle you will need to make a patch and weld it in place after cutting out the infected area. Just use an old fender or something from an old car for the patch.

what is metal etch?

to 'etch' the metal, you are priming it with an 'etching' primer which helps any other paints or primer adhere

Guess its not like normal primer?

not really...it's the first step to a great paint job!
once etched you use a build up primer which can be block sanded for a smoother finish in the paint
regular primer also breaths, so moisture and rust may come up again and bubble paint
i've seen paint jobs flake within a year, which could be because of many reasons...cold temps for example

i'm still learning myself, the secrets to a great paint job! :icon_smile_cool:

70plumrt is correct in what he is saying. But I was referring to a product that is called Metal Etch. It is an acid type of material. Costs around $15.00 a qt and dilutes with water 3 to 1. All the major paint companies sell it in one form or another. You applie it on the rusty areas with a scuff pad and rinse with water then dry it right away. This will clean the metal and help kill the rust. Then you put your primer over that.

and the spot with the most surface rust is the drivers side. Guess its from water leaking in from somewhere.

Now all the "bubbles" i thought i had that i sanded down are brass filler like in that first pics. What exactly is that? 2nd is their an easier way to remove that surface rust?  I guess I got to sand it till its perfectly flat and smooth not poorus?

SInce its just surface rust im debating just leaving it and installing my carpet because in a few years im going to strip the car right down anyways....

People that use brass to fix holes or cracks don't know how to weld. Using brass is not the best way to fix these problems. But sense its been done leave it alone unless there is a problem. On the surface rust I would suggest using a 3M strip and clean disk to remove it with. Then if you get it all the way down to shinny clean metal Metal etch it and seal it with a good epoxy primer. The second suggestion would be to buy a qt of POR 15 and fallow the directions on the can. But I would definitely do something about the rust now before it gets worse. I would also find out where the water is getting in and get that fixed also. It will be coming in from a possible two places. Eather the corners of the windshield or the seals around the wiper pivots. If you don't fix this problem you will be replacing the floors sooner then you think. Trust me its easier to prevent a problem then it is to fix it latter. Cheaper too.
