MOPARHOUND!

Have a few 68-69 consoles cracked and battered.  Thought I would gamble on L & P's new reproduction console shell, and bought several in a package deal.

Pic of the first victim..........sad sight, took a high dive off the top shelf, anyone have a '68 shift knob and button:

*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

What was left after all the "goodies" we're removed, (not much):

Pic of the bare L & P piece before the parts swap.  A quality part in my estimation:

.......and what we ended up with after the parts were swapped.  Just gave the old parts a quick cleaning, they could use a good professional polish and detail/paint. I'm impressed with the consoles, holes are where they are supposed to be, and good quality grain on the shell.

A before pic of the 69 victim.  Sat in sun for 25 years.  Notice how the sun bleached glove box top woodgrain contrasts with the woodgrain the electrical tape protected from the sun.  Fairly dramatic what the sun does to our Chargers:

.....and the after pic's.  This L & P shell was consistent with the other, holes where they were suppose to be, no blemishes I could find.  Plans for this one include a new wood grain kit, and fresh black paint on the tops.  The glove box lid was attached with oversized screws, going to have to solve that somehow:

I looked at one of the reproduction console shells at the Pate Swap Meet.  Advanced Restorations had them at $225 and they looked like a great reproduction part.  Glad to hear that everything lined up on assembly.  Did you get a good price break for the multi-part buy?

Great console...mines not totally shot, but could do with a revamp..
How easy is it to get the console shells? or are they limited availability? Anyone got a link to L and P?

A guy on E Bay is selling these at $154.00 and that includes shipping. A superb deal. I bought a couple automatic ones and love them. They are simply fantastic.

 great!

Hound?.. did you see the need to reinforce where they are prone to crack aft of the box-lid?...

bull

Those so-called blems on Ebay look pretty good according to some people who have bought them. I think I'll be grabbing a 4 speed blem console before too long.

Hopefully someone figures out a way to reproduce '68 top plates and console doors someday. :-\

Good stuff here.  I'll be getting one of those repo's when I'm ready to reinstall the interior in my 69.  The one I have is ok, few small cracks, but I'd rather have a new one.

I haven't eyeballed it real close, but I think that part could have used more reinforcement as an improvement over the factory design.

Have a factory 1966 console, and the shell on it is about 3 times as thick, heavy duty stuff by comparison.

I BOUGHT ONE OF THE REPOP ONES AT A SWAP MEET NO TOO LONG AGO AND THEY ARE VERY NICE IN MY OPINION A LITTLE BIT THICKER THAN FACTORY SO THAT MEANS IF THE OLE LADY WANTS TO CLIMB OVER AND YOU KNOW THE REST DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT BREAKING!

I saw two of the L and P's last weekend. They are VERY nice. The one I held felt a little more rigid than the originals.

I just bought one of the L and P 4 speed consoles today. My old one had a crack that I repaired last year before these were available. Now I noticed the crack opened up again after the cold winter storage and I am tired of messing with it.

I hope mine turns out as good as the posted pics.

I think I'd prefer a reproduction console made of fiberglass over a true ABS plastic one, just for the simple fact that fiberglass parts can be so much more easily & effectively repaired at home.  I don't care about stuff like the grain pattern on the surface half as much as how durable the whole thing is.

I received my "blem" 4 speed console today and I am very impressed with the quality. I honestly can't find the flaw if there is one. Now I just need to spray it red instead of black.  :2thumbs:
